That is a difficult comparison. I know several people that play both equally well. In a very general sense, if you push the correct keys down on a woodwind instrument, you get the correct tone. If you push the correct keys down on a brass instruments, you can still get a wrong note. In general, however, it depends on the ability or aptitude of the player.

There's no official record holder, although it would be possible for a player to hold a note for lengthy periods using what's known as circular breathing, a technique in which the musician can inhale through his nose and simultaneously exhale through his mouth by drawing on air stored in his cheeks.

Borrowing the trumpet itself is fine, but everyone who plays on it should have their own mouthpiece. Putting your lips on something that your friend has also put their lips on is just not a good way to stay healthy.
