Why did John Smith find the colony Virginia?
John Smith did not "find" Jamestown. The colony was funded and established by the Virginia Company, a private group of investors, by sending 106 men to VA. When Smith arrived in Jamestown in late 1608 he was the second governor of the colony. He found 34 of the 106 men alive so he began to set rules for the colony. The colony had spent time looking for gold instead of planting crops so he began to ration the food and got the Native Americans in the area to give them food.
