i have a 2001 acura cl 3.2 and the code p1709 keeps coming up and the drive light flashes. how do i fix this
however long the transmission lasts..... mine has 155k miles on it and the tranny went.... 4k to replace it = bye bye tl ..... i will NEVER own another acura..
I was looking up the same thing and came across these answers: ...
"very well be that the egr valve is coverd in carbon. The carbon is easy to clean with a wire brush if you remove the valve. The main cause of malfunction in an egr valve is the carbon build up leaving it stuck open or closed! Simple huh?
i have a 99tl that had the same problem. simply remove the intake and clean the carbon from the passages to egr. it not difficult, it took about 15 mins and have not had trouble since, good luck!"
The 2009 Acura TL's engine produces 280 hp @ 6200 rpm.
It is located on the top of the valve cover towards the rear of the engine.
Take off the fender or reach under. Give youself time and make sure you have the proper tools.
I'm pretty positive they don't have one. If there is one available it's as an after-market add-on.
Yes, this vehicle requires the use of Premium Fuel. The use of Regular will eventually do engine damage. You bought an Acura, and should have known that a vehicle such as this requires Premium fuel.
Well i have a 1999 TL and it is the same make as your 2003 . To answer your question, Yes you have to, it is not that hard, i replaced all my lights to Blue LED ights. If you need more help let me know.
Try reversing the drive on your ratchet handle and turning the socket in the opposite direction you were turning it when you got it stuck on the spark plug.
Be sure to use a six point spark plug socket. It's much harder to ruin a hex with a six point socket. After you get the socket loose, I'd recommend removing and discarding this plug and getting a new one.
The front track of the 2006 Acura TL is 5 ft. 2.1 in. (62.1 in.).
Depending on the mileage on the car, there are some maintenance requirements to be done by you, or the car dealer. The maintenance light will stay "on" until these maintenace issues are completed. Your owner's manual also tells you how to reset the maintenance light, and outlines the maintenance required per the mileage on the car.
There are 3: 1 in the driver's side door area (open driver's door, on the upper left side of you dash that faces the door, there is a V-shaped panel), 1 in the passenger door area (the reverse of the above), and under the hood (if you're standing in front of the car, facing the hood, it is back left). Page 307 of the manual will explain this along with fuse description.
KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM
With the keyless entry keypad, you can:
• lock or unlock the vehicle doors
without using the key.
Your vehicle has a factory set 5 digit
code that operates the keyless entry
system. You can also program your
own 5 digit personal entry code. The factory-set code is located:
• on the owner's wallet card in the glove compartment
• or at your dealer.
When pressing the controls on the keyless entry keypad, press the
middle of the controls to ensure a good activation.
This system will disable the power door lock controls. These will not
work until the vehicle is disarmed.
Programming your own personal entry code
To program your own code:
5. Enter factory set code (keypad will illuminate when pressed).
6. Press 1/2 control within five seconds of step 1.
7. Enter your personal 5 digit code.
Enter each digit within five seconds
of previous one.
8. After the code is entered, the
locks will cycle, confirming that the
new code has been set.
Do not set a code that includes five of the same number or presents
them in sequential order. Thieves can easily figure out these types of
codes.
Your personal code does not replace the permanent code that the
dealership gave you. You can use either code to unlock your vehicle. If a
second personal code is entered, the module will erase the first personal
code in favor of the new code.

Locks and Security
If you wish to erase your personal code, use the following instructions:
1. Enter factory set code.
2. Press 1/2 control and release.
The system will now only respond
to the factory set code.
Anti-scan feature
The anti-scan feature prevents
repeated attempts at arriving at a valid key code.
The keyless entry pad is disabled for 1 minute after 7 unsuccessful
attempts (35 consecutive button presses) at entering a valid key code.
The keypad will flash during this 1 minute mode. However, the 7/8 and
9/0 controls will still lock the vehicle.
Anti-scan will be turned off after:
• one minute of keypad inactivity.
• the remote entry transmitter UNLOCK button is pressed.
• the ignition is turned to the ON position.
Unlocking the doors with the keyless entry system
To unlock the driver door, enter either the factory set code or the
personal code (each digit must be pressed within five seconds of the
prior digit). The interior lamps will also illuminate.
To unlock all doors, enter the factory set code or personal code (driver
door unlocks) and press the 3/4 control within five seconds.
Locking the doors with the
keyless entry system
It is not necessary to enter the
factory or personal code prior to
locking all doors. To lock the doors:
• with the driver's door closed, press the 7/8 control and the 9/0 control
at the same time.

this will explain it, all you need a screwdriver, your air filter(cabin) is located behind your glove compartment. you'll need to remove it and there you can reach your filter. total estimated time to replace..i would say about 20 mins... its better than letting the dealership do it for 89bucks (not inc. taxes) = ripoff...
hope this helps, enjoy!

It's not the valve. I've never worked on an acura. but it's not the valve. they rarely short out. check the passages, and the vacum pump. hopefully someone with acura experience comes along. good luck.
Ok this guy is a clown. I have never worked on an acura either but it may verry well be that the egr valve is coverd in carbon. The carbon is easy to clean with a wire brush if you remove the valve. The main cause of malfunction in an egr valve is the carbon build up leaving it stuck open or closed! Simple huh?
i have a 99tl that had the same problem. simply remove the intake and clean the carbon from the passages to egr. it not difficult, it took about 15 mins and have not had trouble since, good luck!
Absolutely right! I had a problem where when I drive at a constant speed of 45mph or higher, my '99 Acura TL would behave very weirdly. The engine didn't turn off but even though the car is in DRIVE but still behaved like it was in NEUTRAL, and then it will kick back in and start working again. This happened a lot of times then the check engine light came on. I received the P0401 error code. I bought a new EGR valve from Autozone and replaced it. Works great. However, I do hear a little bit louder noise when the engine starts and I take off, but the Autozone guy told me that it is because there is a lot more air passing through, since the old valve was clogged up.
It is fairly easy and quick to change. I love the performance now!
This is not an easy process, but can be done. There are 5 bolts holding each headlight unit in place.
Remove the plastic cover above each headlight to access the top 2 bolts. This cover is just held on with plastic clips.
Remove the bumper to access the bottom 3 bolts. You will need an 8mm and a 10mm socket for 4 bolts; then remove the plastic clips. Pull the bumper forward to remove it, but be careful of the foglight wiring, and don't force anything loose.
You should see one bolt on the side of each headlight unit, and two on the bottom. Remove these with your 10mm socket, disconnect the wiring, and you're done.
If anyone knows how to remove the headlights without taking off the bumper, please post!
