If you are bolimic or anorexia lose 40 pounds then start eating a healthy diet will you still gain weight if so how many pounds?

YES. You will gain back the weight. During the time that you were being bulimic or anorexic, your body went into starvation mode and used stored energy (fat). When you start eating again, your body will store all the food you eat because it thinks you will be going back to starve yourself, thus, you can easily gain back all the weight you lost plus more gradually. All the food you store will be stored energy, FAT and muscle tissue.

Anorexics are almost always known to restrict food intake. This means low calories, low fats, and low nutrients. What are the statistics of anorexics in the the third world?

There are actually little to no data or statistical information on the particular subject. It is believed that there is almost never a case of anorexia in a third-world country. The reason for this is because those countries are usually very poor and resources like food and water can be scarce and hard to come by. As a result, people are starving. When food is given to them, they must eat in order to survive. They are not choosing to starve, as anorexics are.

People say you don't get thin if you starve yourself if this is true how do anorexics lose weight?

They are different definitions of 'thin'. An anorexic person is thin in an extremely unhealthy way; they lose just as much muscle as fat. A normal 'thin' person just has very little body fat, but the usual amount of other tissue. This makes them far healthier.

Anorexics don't completely starve themselves because they'd die.

They consume enough calories to survive (usually 300-400 daily, maybe less, like an apple and diet Coke for example) but not enough to gain weight, so they lose it instead. Starving does work but is a terrible idea.

What causes eating disorder?

There has been genetic research over the last 5-10 years that points to there being a strong genetic component to eating disorders. Some would estimate 40-70% of the variance is attributable to genetics. There is some support for similar genes at work in obsessive compulsive disorder and some eating disorders.

Other current thought adds to this base and states that there are a few "trigger events" that a person may experience that could potentially "set off" the genetic predisposition. These events may include pressure to diet for the purpose of achieving a specific figure or pressure to exercise (for similar reasons). Of course there are other reasons why eating disorders may occur as well including various family dynamics/ pressures, history of sexual abuse can contribute, and many other things that could increase stress.

If you suffer from an eating disorder, you should certainly seek help from a qualified professional. Genetic or environmental basis - many who have suffered from eating disorders state they are now fully recovered.

Is there a disorder where the person is obsessively irritated by repetitive noises and movements including eating sounds?

When my son was younger he would become so annoyed at the sound of someone eating that he could completely ruin a family dinner for everyone. At age 15 he is not quite as sensitive unless he is extremely tired, and if that is the case ANYTHING could set him off. He also can't sleep well if it is raining, can hear a motor running etc. Any constant noise is irritating to him. WHY? Here is my belief: As an adult I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder as well as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Though not officially diagnosed I know my son well enough to know he has it too. We both can be insensitive ~ hardly aware of specific details around us, or overly sensitive ~ where we notice every little thing and can't sort important stimuli from the unimportant...everything gets the same amount of attention. If this concern is about a young person I would offer hope that they will grow somewhat out of it as they age, as my son did. If the person is an adult my educated guess is that obsessive compulsive may be at work. There are some great sites online for more info. Just search using OCD or ADD & see what you think!

Why does anorexia always affect women'?

Anorexia does not always affect women. About 10% of anorexics are male. Anorexia - and most other eating disorders - are more common in women for a few reasons. Women naturally are more social, and thus focus on social pressures more then men. When social pressures demand thin-ness, women are more likely to develop eating disorders. A woman also experiences more changes in her body (pregnancy, for example) that can fuel body dislike and eating disorders. Women also tend to be more critical of each other than men are to each other. This harshness or bullying can lead to low self esteem and eating disorders, too.
