Both cause a decrease in glomerular filtration rate, although not in renal flow rate. However, ibuprofen in particular can cause potentially fatal stomach ulcers in dogs, is not predictably or well metabolized, and poses extreme risks in the face of volume depletion, such as after vomiting or with dehydration. It is also much more likely to be fatal to smaller and older dogs. Ask your veterinarian for his/her advice if your dog is showing signs of pain or is limping. Treatment other than carprofen may be indicated.

You must ask your vet. It's not wise to medicate your pet without consulting an expert. However, once the dog has gotten some relief I recommend asking more questions and doing your own research, then asking your vet what he thinks about other solutions you've come up with.
