Is Phenylbutazone safe for humans?

No; it has been pulled from the market for human use due to the development of irreversible liver damage when combined with even small amounts of other household painkillers such as acetominophen. It can also significantly affect the duration of action of many commonly prescribed drugs, including several that control diabetes, anticoagulants used to control platelet formation to help prevent strokes or heart attacks, and several classes of antibiotics. There is a human formulation available only through prescription in the UK, but it is considered a last-line therapy for ankylosing spondylitis in that country.

In the short term, provided the patient does not combine phenylbutazone with any other medication it interacts with, the risks are somewhat nominal and similar to other NSAIDS (GI bleeding, liver damage, etc.). In the long term, however, phenylbutazone carries risks for aplastic anemia (inability to make red blood cells) and kidney failure.

Does Ibuprofen neutralize gabapentine?

THE SHORT ANSWER IS NO. Ibuprofen (Advil) is an over the counter pain killer and anti-inflammatory. Gabapentin (Neurontin) is a prescription anticonvulsant and also a pain killer used for nerve or certain back pain. (Also prescribed for migraine headaches and bipolar disorder.) One will not "neutralize" the other. There are no warinings about taking them together. If you are concerned, ask your pharmacist to give you a print-out of each medication. Pharmacists are a good place to look for possible drug-drug interactions.

You have a friend that is sick and he went to the doctor and the doctor give him Tegretol Acyclovir and Prednisone what are these medications for?

Your friend most likely has shingles. It is caused by the varicella (or herpes) zoster virus. Initially, it causes chickenpox. Later in life, it may reactivate and cause shingles, which presents as a rash along a single dermatome, frequently preceded by burning or lancinating pain.

The particular cocktail of medications you have asked about are fairly typical for a shingles outbreak. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug which may decrease the time of outbreak if taken before the rash occurs. Tegretol is an anti seizure medication used in this particular instance to help control the neuropathic pain associated with shingles. Prednisone can be taken to help decrease the inflammation and pain associated with shingles, although this is not a medication I have used frequently for shingles, as it may cause other side-effects and worsen diabetes.

You lost your Prednisone what else can you use until you see your doctor?

Answer

Nothing can replace prednisone. I suggest you go to your local A&E department or pharmacy, preferably with a previous prescription slip and tell them that you have lost your prednisone. They should provide you with emergency supplies.

Prednisone causes adrenal suppression, therefore you will stop producing your natural steroid. If you simply stop taking prednisone, then you can go into Addisonian crisis and die. This is why you MUST go to your A&E department or book an emergency appointment with your doctor. You may also be able to get emergency supplies from your pharmacy.

You have had Ice on your lip and taken ibuprofen to make the swelling go down its still swollen after being pierced almost a week what should you do?

Chances are really good that you are, eating, drinking, smoking and or using the wrong product for cleaning and caring for your lip piercing. Foods, beverages and some cleaning products can infact cause swelling of body piercings, this varies from person to person. What works for one person may not work for you. Over cleaning can also lead to swelling, your body needs to "do it's thing" in order to heal a piercing, over cleaning can actually irritate tissue that is trying to heal and promote swelling. Phone your Piercer or better yet go down and see him/her and be truthful when you talk to them, we can see through the lines of misinformation. If your piercer is good they will spend the time to help you out and fix what ever is wrong with the aftercare routeen. Good Luck

Does Ibuprofen cause dehydration?

personal experience

i had a high fever, headaches, joint/muscle pain, swollen throat/glands.

i was taking ibuprofen for 2 days straight, i was taking 2 every 4 hours.

then on the second night the pain in my throat got worse so on my last lot of ibuprofen i took 3 instead of 2 which isn't usually a problem.

but then in the middle of the night i woke up dehydrated, then when i had a glass of water i was dehydrated again 5 minutes later and my throat and mouth felt like cotton. so i had another glass of water and so on... only after my 5th glass did it calm down enough for me to sleep. i waited 12 hours and then started taking paracetamol instead but i was a lot more careful with them, they did not dehydrate me but they are not as effective (pain relief wise) as ibuprofen.

so yes, i do think that ibuprofen does cause dehydration.

If told not to take aspirin can you take ibuprofen?

That depends on why you were told not to take aspirin. If it's because you are having surgery soon, then no, you should not take ibuprofen, or any other NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) meds. These drugs thin the blood, therefore resulting in possible excessive bleeding during surgery.

It's always best to ask your doctor if you are unsure.

Where are aspirin cough syrup and bandages kept?

It all depends on where you are looking. In a pharmacy, they are kept on certain shelves depending on that certain pharmacies guidelines and procedures. If you are looking in someones house, it is common to look in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom or depending on the occupants preferences. If you are talking about where to keep them for best storage purposes it is best to keep cough syrup in the refrigerator, aspirin is okay at room temperature, and bandages are best in room temperature. This also depends on the brands and ingredients of these items. Some should specify on the back of the box or container.
