Prozac is used for OCD, Depression, Bipolar spectrum disorders, and various other chemical imblance issues having to do with seratonin and dopamine. Prozac is also used for correction of premature ejaculation, premenstrual syndrome, migraine.
Prozac has as its primary active ingredient Fluoxetine
Chemical Formula
C17H18F3NO
Chemical Name
N-methyl-3-phenyl-3-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]-propan-1-amine
Contrary to a previous answer, this compound differs from Fluoride-containing compounds used in topical and systemic fluoride therapy for preventing tooth decay and for water fluoridation, and in many products associated with oral hygiene. Originally, sodium fluoride was used to fluoridate water; hexafluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6) and its salt sodium hexafluorosilicate (Na2SiF6) are more commonly used additives, especially in the United States.
What is the street value of Wellbutrin?
If you mean buying it on the street to abuse, it doesn't do anything but cause a seizure and probably paranoia. But if you mean what does it cost, I pay $0.47 a pill for Wellbutrin SR 150 mg, I live in BC, Canada.
No.
Citalopram (also known as Celexa or Cipramil) is an anti-depressant drug of the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) class.
Benzopiazepines are a class of anti-psychotic drugs that does not include Citaloproam, but does include commonly prescribed drugs such as Xanax, Paxam, Clozan, and Restoril.
Can you take Celexa and hydrocodone together?
These drugs are often prescribed to the same patient. As with all prescription medications, hydroxyzine and celexa should only be used (alone or in combination) as prescribed.
Can you give Benadryl to a dog that is on Prozac?
A dog should NEVER be given a human prescription medicine unless advised by a vet.
Add-on: The answerer is correct but yes, you can give your dog Prozac, it isn't dangerous but you MUST be under guidance of a professional vet to get the correct dosage and ensure that your dog is not allergic to any ingredients in the medication.
How does lexapro and Wellbutrin work together?
My psychiatrist prescribed both at once.
AnswerNo they should not be taken togetherwhy not?
Cymbalta and Lexapro have SIMILAR BUT NOT EXACTLY THE SAME mechanism of action [MEANING: these active ingredients illicit the same response and the enzymes attach to the same receptors (receivers) that prevents the serotinin from leaving the brain]. Cymbalta is an SNRI (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) and Lexapro an SSRI (Selective-Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). Serotonin is "BELIEVED" (not certain) to lack from people who are clinically depressed and norepi has "significant" correlation with depression as well (LOW NOREPI in the brain results to DEPRESSION). Cymbalta and Lexapro both have positive responses in preventing the escape of SEROTONIN from the brain. The only difference is Cymbalta also inhibits/stops the escape of norepi from the brain and Lexapro ONLY prevents serotonin reuptake (removal from brain receptors). The probability of an overdose from these antidepressants is extremely high and can lead to 'serotonin syndrome; too much serotonin which can be fatal (nausea, coma then death). Because both drugs are preventing serotonin from leaving the brain and therefore an accumulation of serotonin in the brain receptors. Only your MD can determin the OPTIMUM strength (the highest strength of the meds. to achieve therapeutic goals without being toxic) of antidepressants. ALSO, if your MD can justify why he's giving you both meds to the insurance, it will be covered by insurance. This will definitely be reviewed prior to approval of claim. These types of drug interactions alerts your insurance and stops them from paying the claim. You may end up paying for either or both your meds out of pocket.
Can you take Celexa and synthroid?
Since the Slim Quick brand of weight loss medication hasn't been approved by the FDA (food and drug administration) it would be wise to talk to your doctor about interacting Slim Quick with any other medication.
Will taking antidepressant while pregnant will affect the infant?
Yes, they will. However the exact effects they will have on the fetus are unknown as it would be unethical to test drugs on a pregnant woman. Retrospective studies have shown that the fetus may stand to suffer withdrawal symptoms once born and may even be more prone to seizures. In most cases where a woman with depression falls pregnant the benefits and risks will be weighed up as there are also risks to the fetus if the mother is suffering of severe depression.
In simple terms, it is best to avoid taking antidepressants while pregnant if this is possible. If you are severely depressed then it will be better for you and your baby if you take them.
People abuse Zoloft because it can make them feel good. If you are prescribed the medication, you should never share it with others.
Can you take Phenocal if you take Zoloft?
It is not suggested to take Phenocal if you take Zoloft. Always inform your doctor before mixing medications or taking medications you don't know much about.
What is the herbal equivalent to Wellbutrin?
None. Xanax is prescription benzodiazepine. No herbal supplement will give you the same feeling. There is a product called herbal xanax, but it is nothing like the prescription pill. You can try Kava-Kava root or Valerian Root to help you sleep/relieve anxiety. My favorite way to take Valerian is in the tea brand name Sleepy Time EXTRA (Blue box. Found at trader joes, or your local health food store)
Does amitriptyline help OCD symptoms?
To my knowledge, this drug is prescribed for anti-anxiety control. Given that ocd/anxiety may fall into similar categories, it is advised that you talk to a physician/psychiatrist on the matter of ocd and what treatments are available and in what dosage. Try not to experiment with treatment like that with out the supervision of a doctor, you might suffer some serious side-effects in the long run.
You take 5 mg of lexapro and you want off how should you taper off to reduce side effects?
I was on 10mg for 4 weeks and just stopped taking it 6 days ago. Your dr would probably suggest tapering off but I didn't do that. I am feeling lightheaded, nausea, dizziness and having headaches since I discontinued use. I am hoping I only need to go through another week of these uncomfortable side effects. I have also been told you usually experience these side effects even if you taper off so I'm not sure what is worse....allowing this drug to continue to be in your system for a longer period of time or just dealing with the symptoms. In my case I decided to deal with these side effects and will never take this drug again.
What is the generic for Effexor?
There isn't one yet, as Wyeth - the company that makes it - holds the sole rights to make Effexor/XR. The active ingredient of Effexor is Venlafaxine
If you are like me and paying out of pocket at the pharmacy, you have realized that effexor is outrageously priced. I pay $330/month for this disgusting medication. If you go to the Wyeth website there is a form for financial assistance or medical assistance, something along those lines. If you qualify (depends on your income) you can get the medicine for free or for a reduced price. The problem with this form is that you have to fill out the information, then have your doctor fill out the information and write a script, then send it. Which doesn't sound all bad if you have a doctor close by. My Doc is an hour away, I have given her the forms 3 times now and she manages to lose them, forget them or doesn't send them. So Monday I am actually driving out there to watch her sign the form, write the script so that I can send it out myself and know that it was done. Once the drug company gets the form, who knows how long the process may be, probably months, but it sure as hell beats paying the ridiculous costs at the pharmacy.
Can you take Tylenol cold and sinus night time and Wellbutrin?
Short answer: yes, they can safely be combined in full, normal doses.
Advil Cold and Sinus is ibuprofen (NSAID analgesic) with pseudoephedrine/phenylephrine (nasal decongestant; the active ingredient in Sudafed), and Tylenol PM is acetaminophen (analgesic) with diphenhydramine (sleep aid; the active ingredient in Benadryl). Combining ibuprofen and acetaminophen is a little redundant, but perfectly safe. Both also have no significant reaction with either diphenhydramine or pseudoephedrine. Some people do report different reactions to both diphenhydramine and pseudoephedrine: some people are sedated by both, and some report excitability. Be sure to note your personal reactions for future reference.
Note that you'd probably save some money and take fewer unneccesary drugs by purchasing generic versions of each drug separately -- ibuprofen, acetaminophen, diphenhydramine, and pseudoephedrine. The first two are for pain (you can opt for the one you prefer), the third is for insomnia, and the fourth is for nasal congestion. That way, you can take only what you need.
The short answer is they are basically the same. The Long answer, they are very similar, but not exactly the same. Escitalopram, which is the trade/brand name of Lexapro is a “purer” form of Celexa (generically known as Citalopram). Lexapro (i.e. Escitalopram) is the (S) enatntiomer of racemic Citalopram (i.e. Celexa). In chemistry, enantiomers are compounds (such as crystals or molecules) which are non-superimposable mirror images of each other. They share the same molecular formula and sequence of bonded atoms, but differ structurally. The chemical formula (i.e. recipe) of both Lexipro and Celexa is the same: C20 H21 F N2 0 (20 carbons, 21 hydrogens, 1 fluorine, 2 nitrogens, and 1 oxygen molecule). But the way they are assembled is slightly different. Your hands (and feet) are examples of Enantiomers. Left and right hands are "the same" but opposite in their structure. Enantiomers have the same chemical and physical properties (such as melting points, boiling points, heat of combustion etc.), but the way they interact may be different. The left handed molecule may be more potent than the right. Maybe the right handed molecule does not work at all. In some cases one molecule may even be harmful, while the enantiomer is beneficial. Think about how your feet feel if you put them in the wrong shoes. You can wear a left shoe on your right foot or a left glove on your right hand, but it won’t fit well. In chemistry, a racemic mixture is a mix of both left- and right-handed molecules. Getting back to Lexapro vs Celexa. Celexa is a mix of both R-citalopram & S-citalopram. While Lexapro is just S-citalopram. In studies, Lundbeck, the pharmaceutical company which makes both Celexa and Lexapro showed that the S-citalopram molecule has a higher affinity for the serotonin receptor. So by removing the R-citalopram from the mixture, Lundbeck created a more efficient drug. In theory, a smaller dose of Lexipro would have the same effect as a larger dose of Celexa. In reality, pharmaceutical companies do this to extend the market life and squeeze as much profit out of a drug. The patent for Celexa expired in 2003, so Lundbeck “purified” Celexa and were able to re-patent the formula as a new drug, Lexapro. The patent for Lexapro expires in 2012. Although Lundbeck showed Lexapro works (a little) better than Celexa (and gained a new patent) most independent “real life” studies (i.e. asking humans, not following monkeys in a lab) show Celexa works pretty much just as well as Lexapro. I tried to be concise without being confusing. It is very similar in nature, yes. As a matter of fact, Lexapro is sort of "the better half" of Celexa, litteraly. It is the most potent part of what is found in celexa which is why smaller a dose is necessary to achieve same effect generally speaking. You can also expect less side effects from Lexapro (although Celexa already is one of the antidepressant with the less side effects available). Ultimately, they do the same job though.
Can Zoloft and diazepam be taken together?
This would be OK if you remain under your doctor's supervision. Taking both of these together can cause side effects such as dizziness and confusion. Remember that lorazepam is habit forming, and should be taken exactly as the doctor orders.
Your doctor may recommend a good therapist to help you learn how to use healthy coping skills to deal with anxiety and stress. This way you can CURE your anxiety, get rid of the sedatives, and get back to living!
