What kind of medicine works good for anxiety attacks?

Anxiety medications are prescribed by physicians who have examined a patient and reached preliminary conclusions about their problems and how they should be addressed.

There are several medications that work well in specific circumstances, but we cannot advise or recommend what might be best for you. See a professional who is skilled in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety.

You should know that many of the medications available are addictive. Please do not self-prescribe. You could well be asking for even more problems.

If you have PTSD depression anxiety and on daily meds that work does it mean you have to take it the rest of your life?

No. PTSD some cases may be cured and/or controlled with therapy. Not all cases of PTSD, just as not all people are the same. Some Dr's like to just put you on a medication and that's that. Most will put you on a medication and monitor your therapy progress. As you make progress with therapy they may and should ease you off of your meds. Good luck and God bless.

What is your beliefs about mental illness?

Mental illnesses aren't something that should be taken lightly. If you don't have a mental illness, you can't really understand about what it is like to actually have one. I think that people shouldn't look down upon those who have these such as anxiety problems, bipolar, and depression. You should treat us the way you would treat any "normal" person. It's no different than having cancer, or skin disease, or other problems with you. People look at us different and that is not the way it is suppose to be.

Does ECT help OCD?

Yes apparently it will work, probably not that well though, having ECT's work best for people with depression, but it is also debated the only reason why ECT's work is because it makes you have temporary amnesia, which is not good, you could forget years of your life and possibly not get it back that is if you have more than 10, for ECT's to be effective would be if you have at least 10, but I personally think this is a useless tool and used for an excuse for people with psychosis in which there is nothing left to do, therapy and medication would be much more effective.

What is the word for the fear of viewing sports or playing sports?

sportsphobia

It is not sportsphobia. That mixes Latin with Greek words which you should try to avoid in compound words.

The word 'sport' comes from from Old French desporter(des- 'away' + porter 'carry') which is in turn from the Latin word portare, to carry).

The word 'phobia' is the Greek word for fear, so you cannot mix the two.

Sp, to work out the name of any phobia, you need to find the name of the thing that is feared in Greek (for example spider in Greek is arakhne, so the fear of spiders is arachno-phobia).

The Greek for sport is athletikos (which originally meant to compete for a prize), so a fear of sports is athletikophonia.

I mean here ancient Greek of course, as in modern Greek the word 'spor' is also used for sport.
