This is actually a common misconception. While the Apache were technically responsible for the deaths of buffalo, the physical act of killing was never prevalent in tribal activities because of the Apache's respect for the sanctity of all life.

Instead, the Apache subjected buffalo populations to continuous observations regarding the fallen state of the world, the futility and pain of existence, and the inevitability that someday each living being would die alone and painfully and ebb into themselves and be forgotten for all eternity, regardless of actions in life.
