Why did communists force people to be atheist?

They forced people into their narrow ideology, of which did not have room for god. Most atheists in the West are secularists along with most religious people, meaning that they don't want government in their minds telling them what to believe.

Are atheists more successful in life?

At the present moment, there is a lack of substantial evidence to prove that atheists or agnostics are more successful than the theistic population, but because atheists reject the notion of an afterlife and acknowledge that they only have one life before death, this MAY lead them to realistically think in goal oriented ways which would eventually motivate them to accomplish as much as they can in order to succeed and enjoy life to its fullest level before they die.

However there is a correlation that demonstrates that nations that are mostly atheistic or secular (such as Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and Japan) all have some of the highest standard of living ratings in the world. So it seems that more irreligious countries (or secular countries) all have increased wealth (higher GDP rates) and better qualities of life. It has also been empirically proven that atheists tend to be more educated and have higher IQs.

Also, more irreligious (secular) nations have lower prison populations, higher rates of education and lower crime rates on average compared to more religious nations-in which, antithetically, more pious nations are characterized by a profusion of cultural and scientific deterioration, retrogression and subordination of women.

Is European society for quality research legitimate?

European Society for Quality Research, registered and based in Switzerland, is an organization promoting quality awareness and best practices. Its activities include quality research, recognition, consultancy, assessment and training.

Why do people hate atheist?

The same reason people hate Christians and Jews etc. Living in a world with different belief systems will always breed hate. Everyone should be viewed as a human and should get respect as a human. We are commanded to love, not hate, our neighbors.

Answer:

Not all people hate atheists, most probably don't care one way or another. About a third of the world's population is atheist, agnostic or a religion that does not have such a concept.

People that do hate because of another's belief are usually unconvinced of the correctness of their own belief and see any person presenting a strong contrary position as being a threat.

How does an atheist view reality?

There is no atheist view except that there is no god. Atheists think whatever they want. However when you take "god" out of the picture you have a Universe (and reality) that runs on understandable physical relationships (rainbows are caused by diffraction, not heavenly benevolence, good or bad luck comes as the result of probability and statistics (not divine intervention or satanic interference), beauty is a cultural artifact, and goodness, mercy and a lot of other social interactions become the obvious result of beneficial altruism. The rules always work - the sun doesn't move back in the sky, iron doesn't float, and genetics are not changed by striped sticks - there are no miracles.

What impact did atheism have on the world?

Hopefully to help people question things that don't make sense. It's when we do then positive progress takes place. People don't understand the scientific method and how valuable it is. By questioning, observing, researching, testing, discussing, people are healed through medicine (and not left for dead because God is mad at them for something.) Hopefully to replace fear with understanding.

Why is atheism frowned upon in the American society?

People fear change. For 2000 years we have been taught and even forced to believe a certain way. When Galileo in the 1600's showed the Church that the earth was not the center of the universe, they banished him for such heresey. Copernicus put the sun as the center of the universe almost a century earlier. If he had not died the day his book was published he may very well have been burned at the stake. 400 plus years later we now know the sun is at center, and faith was not lost. The Vatican in recent years has agreed that evolution is correct, but fundamentalist churches are gnashing their teeth over evolution. Faith is faith; science is not, it is fact. My hope is that the two can reconcile. Science does not want to undermine people's faith. That was my own last obstacle to overcome as I let go of faith to be an atheist.

Why don't atheists just kill everyone who believes in these false deities?

While atheists have no set of rules or regulations to follow and each acts in their own way, they generally value each human life as a unique and brief thing. With the exception of self preservation there is no need for killing. Wanton destruction of life is seen as a pointless activity.

Points to remember:

  • Atheists are not a homogeneous bloc. There is no atheist agenda
  • Atheists often have good friends and family that are religious
  • If everyone else noticed that a group was attempting to purge the world of a group (a specific religion, bald or racial) the rest of the world might turn on them. This is a bad outcome for that group
  • Atheists don't kill people who are not atheists is because atheists have no desire to force everyone to think as they think and do as they say. Most have no wish to dominate. That would make us no better than the religious people.
  • Atheist have no need to commit genocide.
  • Logically. as the religious make up more than 66% of the world, a world without all those technicians, farmers, doctors, air traffic controllers, sewer workers etc. might be unpleasant to live in

Is religion self delusion?

It is certainly a delusion; but the propensity of some religious followers to try and extend that delusion shows that it applies to more than just the self. Also MASS delusion.

Do atheists believe in what Christians think?

By definition, atheists don't believe in God; therefore they can't "believe in what Christians think."

that being said, atheists do have moral guide lines, not unsimilar from christians or any other follower of any religion. the claim that atheists are immoral is totally unjustified.

considering that atheism is merely not believing in a god, that is arguably the only definite belief that is opposed, an atheist can can believe in everything else that a christian believes aside from their position on faith.

Do atheists have a place to hang out?

Like most people they hang out with people they feel comfortable with. This may include other atheists, interesting people of all stripes, musicians, welders, sky divers, chess players - whatever. Most of these people never bring up the topic of religion as it just isn't that central to their lives or feel that it is none of their business to influence a friends private life.

Can an Atheist get insurance against acts of god?

Of course. In business and contract usage an 'act of god' is not a religious term. It refers to an unreasonably severe, unpredictible event caused by natural forces without any human interference. It is an event over which the insured party, or party to a contract, has absolutely no control. Examples are: snowstorm, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, etc. Also called 'acts of nature' they are insurable and provide a valid reason for non-performance of a contract.

What is the theist view of God?

From Islamic perspective, Islam is definitely monotheistic religion and Muslims believe in the oneness of God (Allah), the one and only one with no partner.

Quran says (meaning English Translation):

" ... He is Allah (God) the one. Allah the Self-Sufficient Master , whom all creatures need, (He neither eats nor drinks). He begets not, nor was He begotten. There is none co-equal or comparable unto Him"[Quran, chapter 112, verses 1-4]

All prophets, since start of mankind, were sent by God to call for monotheistic religion, worshiping one and only one God without any partner or any companion. One of objectives of the holy book Quran is to correct for the previous beliefs that were altered by some people causing deviation of the religion from the right path of monotheism.

Why isn't there an atheist on the United States Supreme Court?

A judge's personal opinion should never influence his or her decision on a law ruling. The Constitution gaurantees seperation of Church and State in every form of government in the United States.

Is believing in God a choice?

As nice as it is to believe that belief is a choice, many factors come into play. Parents who would disown you, clients who would not support your business, citizens who would not vote for you and schools that would torment your children are all possible outcomes of being an open atheist. As a consequence many atheists are still "in the closet" so that they can avoid this persecution. As a consequence bing a non-believer is your choice but you can never avoid going to church and praying at public functions and so on.

How have beliefs and practices in Atheism changed over the years?

No, it doesn't have any beliefs to change.

For a long time the word 'atheism' was used to accuse people of not believing in the local or approved gods. Socrates was accused of being an atheist for not believing in the gods of Athens. Christians were also called atheists by the believers in Rome before Christianity became the official religion.

From the Enlightenment period (1700s) in Europe atheism took on the concept of rejecting all gods. Thinkers, like Baron d'Holbach and Jean Meslier, denied in writing the existence of all gods, particularly the Christian god.

Today atheism includes two different but related beliefs - (1)the denial in the belief in god and (2) the rejection of the existence of god.

Since the advent of Darwinian evolution and the massive changes it brought to the scientific community, atheists have found more mainstream acceptance of their beliefs. As Richard Dawkins puts it, this has made it possible to be an 'intellectually fulfilled atheist.' This does not change atheists premises or their beliefs, but has simply been used as a pillar supporting them. They would thus claim, and frequently do, to have a massive amount of scientific data which supports their system of belief.

Atheists also point out the massive scientific consensus surrounding evolution, as if numbers somehow make their data correct. While the numbers are most certainly on their side, and the consensus, and the media generally, and the public school system as well, many people still do not share their beliefs. Others, some of whom are themselves atheists, question the scientific merit of a number of key evolutionary pillars. Nevertheless, they continue to remain committed to both, indicating the link between them and the importance which belief in evolution has come to play in modern day atheism. The two have thus become inextricably linked.

In line with this belief system is the apparent necessity to suppress and deny, rather than scientifically investigate any alternative views or contradictory data. This is even so within 'scientific atheism' itself where critics of the Big Bang, although growing in number due to increased data against it, have in the past remained silent lest they suffer discrimination. Even the late Stephen J. Gould raised his eyebrows at the denial of the Nobel Prize for Medicine to Dr. Damadian, its undoubted inventor and patent holder. This, as Gould himself no doubt perceived because of Damadian's open creationist views. Apart from the Big Bang dissenters, much contradictory data, and many serious unsolved problems remain, atheism continues to enjoy the support it finds in the modern scientific consensus.

What is ethism?

The word "Ethism" does not exist in English as far as I know. The closest word to it is the greek word "Ethismos" which means addiction. Do not confuse it with "Atheism" which is used for describing the act of not believing in any God or belong some kind of religion.

Why is everything how it is?

Things simply are, they don't need a "purpose" which responds to the question of why.

Assume that things were different and you were a creature from some science fiction story - even though you swam in molten sulfur, were scaly and 4 meters tall you would still ask the same questions.

"The understanding that at the point in spacetime that singularity occurred, quantum potential collapsed into sets of virtual particles/anti-particles pairs due to vacuum fluctuations occasionally producing a non-zero value after which solar and planetary accretion condensed the remaining gasses into stars and planets the composition of which often includes organic chemicals which naturally form molecular bonds and in our case autocatalytic feedback loops ie simple replicators which proceeded to fill the oceans of early Earth eventually increasing in sophistication, forming lipid membranes around bubbles which protect the RNA and eventually DNA core of early single celled organisms, which evolved the capacity to live in colonies, becoming simple multicelluar organisms like sponges, which became intermediaries like polyps which became early invertebrates which branched into vertebrates, some of which became fish, then amphibians, one of which (Tiktaalik) is famously among the first to crawl onto dry land where amphibians branched off into reptiles, which branched into both birds and mammals, some of which survived the extinction event that killed the dinosaurs, became arboreal primates, later descended and learned to walk upright in order to carry food/tools/young and of course, these proto-humans eventually became us."

Does ghosts poop?

Scientists can't even prove that ghosts are real and if they were (which I don't believe), it probably wouldn't be any more toxic than that from a human.

What do atheists consider to be human problems?

Atheists are people. They consider the same things to be problemas everyone else does, including:

  • poverty;
  • overpopulation;
  • corruption of government;
  • unfair distribution of wealth;
  • immorality;
  • the normal problems of everyday life.
