Why are my Audi a4 windshield wipers moving slowly?

My friend had the same problem ...he had to open the wiper motor itself and clean it up...i t was full of salt and dirt. then use some wd40 to lubricate it. If you leave it like that it will eventually stop moving and it would be really dangerous.

Its not the motor, its the linkage. It is a very common problem with german cars. It seizes up (usually driver side oddly). You can repair it yourself, look up audi a4 windshield wiperlinkage seize for instructions. That is more than likely your problem, i fixed mine about a month ago.

How do you replace a wiper washer pump on Audi A4?

I just did this however you need to make sure something as simple as the fuse is not blown. I was told that if the wipers still functioned that the system fuse (usually a 30A fuse) was not blown. The wipers did work and the 30A fuse was good so decided it was the washer pump. Here is step by step to get at washer.

1. Remove drivers side front wheel

2. Remove inside fender wheel well covering (about 6-8) screws

3. Upon removing cover you will note to left of wheel the plastic washer reservoir. Located behind this reservoir are the pumps.

4. Unscrew reservoir bolts and pull reservoir loose from grommet at top of fill container. Also at this time you can now disconnect the water level sensor plug that plugs in to the left side of the reservoir

5. Pull reservoir out and you can now locate pumps. If the pumps are bad, this is an easy fix of disconnecting the electrical connects, disconnecting the water lines and pulling th pump out of the reservoir fitting.

6. Replace new motors and reassemble in reverse order.

Note. In the Audi A4 that I worked on, there was an additional fuse that went to these pumps, called the Intelligent Module (20A). Check this prior to assuming pump is bad.

I can personally attest to the value of checking the Intelligent Module fuse. After freaking out 'cause daughter's car wouldn't wash, I went in search of a washer pump - pretty easily found by the way, and about $35.00. When daughter got home, I checked the wiper fuse first, which was good. Then I checked the Intelligent Module fuse -low and behold it was popped. Probably by the headlight washers being iced over.

A switch of the fuse and we were pumping again. If you live in a climate where freezing temperatures occur check the Intelligent Module fuse first (#37 bottom row middle). Mine was blown possibly due to ice and or snow buildup on the headlight washers. My windshield wipers worked but the spray wasn't. A blown fuse is most likely the problem and cheapest to resolve.

It is not really a battery light. It is a charging system light. It is on because the system has malfunctioned. Normally this means the alternator is not working properly.

How much should a battery replacement cost for a 2001 Audi A4?

I don't know how much it *should* cost, but my son just paid $400 (minus a few cents) to HBL Audi of Tysons Corner (Virginia). Charges included $181 for the battery, $175 for labor, ~$30 to dispose of the old battery, taxes, and an admin charge for updating his service record. :)

This seems excessive to me and I've just started researching it. This is the first car he has bought (used) since just finishing college and starting his first job. He paid just over $10K for the car ($14400, via 48-month financing), and has now put about $2K into repairs (~$700 for a rear window motor replacement, ~$650 for engine mount replacements, this $400 battery replacement, and a few incidentals...and now HBL wants $92 to replace a headlight bulb.

Hey, life can be tough, I know...and my son definitely has a lot to learn about such things (and it's not that we don't preach alternatives)...but on the other hand, he's a young kid working hard and trying hard to do things right...I feel that HBL is really taking advantage of him. (My son lives and work in the general vicinity of HBL and that plus his original expectation of having a lasting relationship with the Audi dealership -- when he is able to buy a more expensive new car someday -- have caused him to continue using them. My wife and I are pushing him to search for more honest alternatives.)

So you can get a battery at Autozone for $90 and replace it yourself in about ten minutes without any experience needed. There is only one screw that holds the battery in place, just need a long 6mm Allen wrench. Headlight is $20 and takes about 10 minutes to replace as well, 4 screws, unscrew top two, loosen bottom 2. There are guides online. Audi dealers overcharge everything. Don't ever go there!

Regards.
