If you want to change the bulb of the headlight behind the air filter box, you have to first unscrew the screw ring that is around the hose connecting to the filter box, the you have to release the two locks that connect the two parts of the filter box, after that you have to move the two wire that are on top of the box(just slide the plastic part so it can be moved), after that you have to remove the part of the filter box nearest to the engine and take it out, after you take that part out you have to take the other part out but keep in mind that it is tied to the body of the car by a plastic screw just pull the box out a little bit to release that screw, then before you take that part of the box out you have to release a small hose that is connected to the back of it. To do that there is a plastic ring around the area connecting it to the box, you have to squeeze that plastic ring and pull the hose out at the same time. After you have released the hose take that part of the box out, now you can reach the back of the light from inside the engine compartment. there is a plastic cover for the back of the whole head light in order to open it you have to reach the lower edge of that plastic cover, there are two areas where you have to push upwards to open it, note that these aren't the ones on the upper edge that you can see clearly, in order to find them just feel the lower edge with your fingers and you will detect them, after you take the plastic cover out you can see the wires connecting the lights, to take the bulb out there is a metal clips holing the bulb in place, just push it towards the light and then move down. take the bulb out, see how its connected just pull it out of the plug and then put the new bulb in the same order, and put it back, and then go through the same steps in reverse order to put everything back in place. Make sure that the new light is working before you put everything back in place, but don't start the car in order to do this so that you don't get any unfiltered air into the engine, just turn the ignition on.

If you want to change the light on the left side which lies behind the fluid reservoir, just follow the steps from opening the plastic cover of the headlight, you will have to squeeze your hands in there but no need to take anything out of place in that area, hope this helped anybody.

Hey i just changed my brakes last week and i think you're running into the same problem i had. If it's the 12 point bolts you're having trouble removing just go into a Npa store and ask for the 12 point tool which i believe is called a serrated socket. The number on the tool they gave me is K-D 2306, it cost $8

On the 1998 Audi A6, the turn signal bulb can be replaced by opening the hood. Reach into the turn signal from the fender wall and push in and turn the old bulb to remove it. Push in and turn to replace with a new bulb.

Remove the engine cover by undoing the 3 nuts. You will see the fuel temp sensor between the bulkhead and the fuel filter (there is a green clip holding it in place on my 2004 c5 model).
