Is New York Conservatory For Dramatic Arts legit?
They're accredited by NAST (National Association of Schools of Theater). I don't know that much about them or what you want to know by "legit", but they are an accredited school, so they have to meet some fairly strict standards set up by a third party. They aren't a degree granting institution though, for that you'd have to transfer their credits into another school after two years and go for a degree there.

What solo should a flute player play for college audition?
The Ohio Music Education Association and other statewide competitions rate music based on difficulty. Look in your state for events such as the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Event to find Class A pieces, which are considered to be college level solos. Try looking on the list for anything you might have played before for a competition. Going by OMEA standards, Class A would be suitable, but anything below may be somewhat questionable. I know a friend who played a very difficult Class B solo, so I will ask her for the title and update this answer.
I've played Fantasie by Faure, Movement 1 (Allegretto malincolo) to Francis Poulenc's Sonate pour Flûte et Piano, and Movements 1 and 3 the Telemann Suite in A Minor. These are all considered "college-level" and are fairly difficult for players just coming out of high school, but of all the pieces I would have to say that the Telemann Suite is the easiest to play without a piano player.
You can find a large majority of these solos for around $5-8 at any music store. The most popular of the pieces I mentioned is the Poulenc solo, so that will probably be the easiest to locate a copy of.

The best way to receive information about upcoming auditions is to have an agent who finds the work for you and sends you on auditions or castings. You can also look for a local casting agency in your town where you can set up a profile online with your information and pictures. If a casting that fits your description comes in, then the casting agency will notify you. However, casting agencies are not like modeling or talent agencies and being with one does not mean you have agency representation.
