If you're doing something like a foxtrot or a waltz, the dress will be long and flowing, generally with gloves or "floats", but for things like a cha-cha or salsa, the dress is often short, with fringe or something of the like that will accentuate the hip movement of the dance. Men's costumes don't vary too much, but for latin dances, their pants are much more form-fitting than for a smooth dance.
