I love my SM-57. Its got a huge range and is totally the best universal mic that can get anything from an amp to a snare to vocals. Unless you really need high end gear for really serious recording, I'd go with a versitile mic. I imagine though if you're asking on here, you are not doing something so serious to drop a few grand on a ultra high end (low end :) ) mic.

Bass guitar strings should be tightened to the point where they are in tune. This generally doesnt require an incredibly tight wind, but there definitely will be a certain amount of tension when properly tuned.

A good bass guitar has some pretty sophisticated electronics in it as well as finely machined hardware. Additionally there is a lot of woodwork involved, and in order to produce a quality product, you have to start with quality material which is also not expensive.

However, that being said, bass guitars and guitars in general have actually gotten quite a bit cheaper in the last 10 years or so. Advances in production techniques have allowed the cheaper makers to make a much higher quality product than they used to. For less than $300 you can usually find a very serviceable and playable bass.

That's not to say that the $1000 American made basses don't still have their advantages... but a 2009 cheapy is usually a much better quality instrument than its 1999 (or 1989) equivalent would have been.

Yes it can. When you plug in a semi hollow guitar, what you get is an electrified semi hollow sound. I set my tone about half way, and the treble at slightly less using only the forward [bass] pickup. They sound quite nice even unplugged.

The bass guitar looks like an ordinary electric guitar except it has a longer neck and only four strings (5 or 6 string versions are available). The bass has only 20 frets but the neck is longer as the frets are each longer than that of the electric guitar. The Bass Guitar plays a vital role in a band, as it must keep the beat as well as play the tune. The Bass usually focuses on the drums, as they both need each other to help stay in beat. The Bass also enhances the song, giving it more feeling and life, of course, a good bassist is needed to preform such task. Bass is not necessarily easy, just as long as you play the hard stuff.

A Riff, is a main tune played in guitar. any cool peice of music such as "cant stop" by the red hot chilli peppers for example is a riff. A Bass riff is just the correct term for a bassline, or tune played on bass

If loud enough yes, just like any instrument. It is important when practicing to keep it quite low. Many bands wear ear plugs when playing in order to avoid permanent ear damage.

The difference is the amount of strings. A six string doesnt have better chords than a twelve stringed. The twelve string sounds much more rich and has a unique sound, along with more chords to play.
