Nope that is the wrong breed of dog yes they do need to be walked but hiking long walks like that.. Boat fine as long as you do have a safety vest for the dog..So The Basset Hound is not the right breed for hiking and long walks and running

There is not such a breed, but there are types of Bassets which tend to be physically smaller than the classic variety. The Basset Arteisan Normand, for example weighs in at around 35 pounds vs. the classic Basset Hound at around 75 pounds.

A male Basset Hound can breed at about 7-8 months but I would advise against this as you do not yet know if the stud has any problems that you do not want passed on to future generations. My advise is to wait until they are about 2 years old and by that time their adult characteristics will be evident and you will know better if it is responsible to breed him. To add to your answer, I took my basset hound to the lake last weekend and he LOVED the water, only wading in it though, he would wade out up to his chest and stand there, then run out and repeat it all over again. It was really fun to watch.
