Betta and Siamese Fighting Fish

It isn't a good idea to feed your beta fish blueberries. they are typically insectivores and prefer to eat meal worms, fruit flies and so on and so forth.

Do you have any idea how big most Plecostomus sp. get? They grow into monsters (12" minimum) and your tiny 10 gallon tank won't be big enough for it by itself. If you just had the five smaller fish and the Betta you would be very close to overstocked because your 10 (nominal) gallon tank will actually only contain a maximum of around 8 or 9 gallons. Tanks are never filled to the brim and probably also have gravel on the bottom which will displace some water.

When the pair mate, the male wraps himself around the female and squeezes to release the eggs from her body. At the same time he releases milt, the fluid containing his sperm. The eggs are fertilised as they come out, by the time you see them floating to the bottom they are already fertilised. This is why you often get a large percentage of infertile eggs if the female is larger than the male (and he cannot wrap around her properly) or if the male is inexperienced and he doesn't get it right.

Bettas have evolved to be able to survive in small amounts of water but they do not necessarilly do well under those conditions. They are basically the same as all fish and need the same basic conditions. 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water (a Betta is a 3 inch fish) Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. Bettas are tropical and also need to be kept at around 78F.

Bettas can be kept safely in a gallon or more, depending on how active he/she is. If you want your betta to be really happy, get a 5+ gallon tank. Any size gravel/rocks will work, and my betta seems to like the plants I added. Remember, bettas like roomy habitats.

The Fighter fish (Siamese Fighting fish) always likes to stay alone and if some other fishes are added it will start attack or feel depressed which affects its health.

But zebra fish is a good choice to keep with fighter fish as it swims so fast fighter fish cant reach it at any moment.

Gold fish - is a wrong choice as it has flowing fins which makes fighter fish to attack it willingly...

They are a bit like you and I and every other animal. They breath harder and more often when they are active so there is no specific breathing rate. They will also be seen to make more trips to get a mouth full of air if their water is bad and needs changing.

Betta pellets are designed for Bettas to eat. Hermit crab pellets are designed for Hermit crabs to eat. Goldfish flakes are designed for Goldfish to eat. Are you getting the message? If you wish your Betta to do well, feed it Betta food.

Yes I'd imagine so though I've not tried it, just use filtered, or boiled or water left to rest a day to remove the chlorine, though some water does have a lot of heavy metals that are not good for any fish. My experience has been they can live quite happily in many types of tanks from as small as a cup of water, they tend to be aggressive to many other fish in the same tank though and do need to be fed so keep in mind this will "muck up" the tank. Change at least 10% up to 25% some say no more than 50% but I think that's a bit drastic - so change a bit of the water in the tank each week to keep it clean.

Females are non-agressive and will most often leave the snail alone. If you have a male, he most likely will. It also depends on the size of the snail, the larger the snail the less likely it will be harmed, but a larger snail in turn can injury a betta if it snaps shut on the bettas head. For the most part snails and bettas don't mix well.

Betta fish can communicate through colors and body language. A betta fish can use fins to show it is ready to breed, and can change its skin to have black or dark vertical bars to show it is ready to breed. A male can communicate to other males to stay away by flaring it's fins and fanning it's gills at it's intruder.

There are so many different colour variations of Betta that red streaks in blue fins are quite common as are blue streaks in red fins. All it means is that the fish are cross bred.

Well, if you love your Betta fish, then it should live by itself. But if you add another Betta to your current Betta fish's tank, then they will start a fight because Betta Fish are Siamese fighting fish and if one Betta is in contact of another Betta, the possible reason would be a fight between them two.

Yes they will be happy because they can sleep in the plants and on the gravel.But the fish tank should be large for the fish so it has more room.I would get a large fish tank at petco they are a good price and work GREAT.

A baby betta fish will eat their yolk sag for the first week or so of life. Then they can be fed liquid fish food and baby brine shrimp. After a month they can eat the same foods a regular betta fish eats.

Yes my female betta did lay egg's,the male picked them up with his mouth and put the eggs in the bubble nest.them i removed the female and male betta stayed,after the eggs hatch,after a day and a half i took the male out of the fish tank and the baby's were by therem self's

yes because once i got a betta fish and i put in a tank with a gold fish the first day the betta killed the goldfish so i boult a nother goldfish it did not kill the goldfish because i put them in sepret tanks so that's what you guys should do it because i did it try it people your goldfish will not dy.

my goldfish was a fin-nipper that's why it killed it because the goldfish ripped a fin off of the betta so do not put betta fish with goldfish because you never no if the goldfish is a betta.

Yes you can, but don't put them in a crowded space or they will attack each other. You can't put two you got to three because its something with their instincts to kill each only if two (especially in a small area).

You can even keep five but if you have a big enough space in your tank they will get along.

You can't do that with males they would kill each other no matter what cause. Female Betta are calmer and nicer to other females unless there in small space then there not nice. Don't think about putting a female and a male only if your ready to breed and have several tanks. So yes you can put females together.

Betta fish of nearly all kinds have thin, relatively flimsy fins to get through almost flowless lakes and ponds called Rice Patties. They spend a lot of time floating because it is a lot of work to swim about for them,(That's why its best to keep them in wide tanks instead of tall) as apposed to fish like koi and tetras, which have short, relatively sturdy fins use for propelling themselves through faster moving streams and rivers. In short, the betta fish is simply resting.

To make it simple, imagine you are under water and the only way to move about effectively is to quickly and rigorously flap your wrists/hands(not your entire arms) and only your wrists/hands until you reach your optimal location. Keep in mind feeding, fighting filter currents and accelerating. It's a LOT of work to be a betta fish!
