How do you tell if a fish is a girl?
You can tell the difference between male and female fish by a female wouldn't have as colorful gills as a male would or if you still can't tell the female would be a slight bigger than the male
Grouper is another common name and there are many different species that are called by that name. Never-the-less they are all fairly large fish. The large Groupers (In Australia they are called Gropers) can get to a couple of metres long and weigh in at over 250 Kilograms. (600lbs approx). They do not have large teeth but do have very large mouths and amazing sucking ability. They are reputed to be capable of swallowing a fully grown man and there has been a report of a person being killed by a Grouper in Mozambique. Near Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia I personally witnessed a swimmer with his hand and arm down a Gropers throat trying to retrieve it after it had been swallowed as he swam past a Groupers 'hole'. Can one eat a person? I would say yes it is possible.
Will a betta fish kill a guppy fish?
Bettas have a lot more personality than guppies, and require less space (5 gallon+). However, I have had boredom and tail biting issues with mine, so I had to upgrade to a 10 gallon tank with pygmy cories to stop him being bored. This is a risky move as many bettas are aggressive and won't accept tank mates.
Guppies require 10 gallon+ tanks, and are stunning creatures. However, they are less intelligent and have less personality than bettas.
Both fish require a heated and filtered tank, and no matter what you decide it is of upmost importance that you do a fishless cycle to create a healthy bacterial colony before you add any fish. Without doing this your fish will be in pain from ammonia and nitrite spikes and may die.
Can Chinese fish get pregnant?
I am guessing that you are refering to the "Siamese Fighting fish" Better (more acurately) known as a Betta splendens. They do not have live young and so can not get pregnant. The male builds a nest of bubbles and looks after the eggs and fry in there until he decides they are capable of hiding and fending for themselves.
How much room does a betta fish need?
For the best health and lifespan of a betta, you should consider something that is at least 2.5 to 5 gallons and can have a small heater (bettas need a water temp of 78F to 80F), and a low flowing filter on it whether that be a small internal filter, or a small HOB (Hang On Back).
What temperature do mollies like the water in their fish bowl?
Water temperature in the aquarium should be kept in the 75-80 F range.
What kind of betta do you have?
All store bettas are one species, Betta splendens. They just have different appearances the way all dogs are Canis familiaris. And the ones in stores are mutts, their offspring will be completely random in appearance. Betta breeders have developed strains that repeat colors and fin shapes.
Can you use just regular water from the tap for a beta?
Tap water is the best water for betta fish! There is no need to go out and buy expensive betta fish water...it's no different then tap! If you want to be sure that the tap water is safe for your betta, put in some sort of conditioner for the water.
Can you put a betta with a different kind of fish?
no. the male betta will attack every fish it sees. and its to bad because the bettas are the most beautiful fish, and it would be nice to set up a tank of just bettas. but the true answer is no. but yes to a female betta. you can put female bettas with other fish. and sometimes you can put male bettas and female betas together. (i was assuming you were asking about the male betta)
Why does Betta not eat Betta pellets?
They can be very finicky eaters. 2 days is not alarming. Keep giving it food; it's probably a good idea to remove uneaten food if you can. I have a turkey baster that is devoted to the betta; it works very well as a cleaning tool.

What are adaptations of a betta fish?
I guess you are referring to the Bettas "Labyrinth" this is a chamber in the skull of the fish that allows it to 'breath' air. This adaptation is what enables the fish to survive in adverse (low Oxygen) water conditions in the wild. When you see a Betta rise to the surface of the water and take a gulp of air he is using his 'labyrinth'.
Can you put a betta in a tank with a convict fish?
It is quite possible that the Convict cichlid would kill a fish as small and slow as a Betta. I would not try to mix other peaceful species with large aggressive fish like Convicts.
Which fishes can live with arowana fish?
Some fish that might live in an aquarium with arowana are clown knifefish, pacu, oscars, plecostomus, jaguar cichlids, green terrors, gar and any other semi-aggressive fish that are too big to be eaten. Australian arowanas are best kept alone.
I have heard of a Discus Breeder who tried to keep Adult Discus and Arowana in the same tank since they need similar water parameters. He failed. I would not advise anyone to keep anything with Arowanas. They are ferocious predators, and get far too big. (Around 13 to 14 feet long in captivity). You would need a very large aquarium to keep one alive for any length of time.
There are many poisonous fish offered on the market for private aquariums, often bought by irresponsible collectors for curiosity. The deadly 'lionfish' is even common!
There are more poisonous fish than poisonous snakes out their. Other poisonous fish that may be sold as pets include amongst others: stone-fish, scorpion-fish, ...
since all the eggs are still in the mother either they all live or die. if a fish lays their eggs then it depends...

Is it safe to put your hands in a fish tank without gloves?
Ok...first of all, I own an aquarium and my dad is a fish genius. Don't ever put your hand in there if it has lotion, perfume, soap, or any type of substance. Not even food! Power never has to be turned off to put your hand into the tank. Just don't try and touch the fish because it can stress them out. Hope this helps! Cheers -Sarah
Can two betta female fish have babies?
yes thy can
Betta fish do not "have" babies. The male betta fish builds a bubble nest and then courts the female, she will display horizontal bars (not vertical) to let him know she's ready. They will do the betta "wrap" and she will drop eggs as he fertilizes them. At this point he scoops up the eggs and puts them in his nest. Her part is done and it is best to remove her for her safety. The male will care for the eggs until they hatch at which point his job is also done.
You are supposed to have bubbles in your fish tank or else your fish will die because they don't have enough oxygen.
How big of a tank do you have to have for a Betta fish?
Whether male or female, ALL BETAS SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO FIGHT. Betas are highly aggressive with one another, and are very territorial. A period of mating is not an exception, and can still result in an injured fish.
As a general rule, one beta will be healthier NOT sharing its life with another beta. Forcing two betas to share an environment may result in severe and even life-threatening injuries.
No matter how large the tank, eventually the betas will inevitably find their way into the same area, and when they do, you'll have Mortal Kombat 3 in your fish tank.
Moreover, even if they merely saw one another from far, far, opposite sides of the tank, it's extremely (VERY!) likely that at least one of the two betas (if not both) would actually find the other enough of a threat to put itself immediately into the other's space and engage in aggressive activity.
If you're asking because you really want to own more than one beta, there are other solutions that are slightly preferrable (although some may still be somewhat upsetting to the betas).
If you really, really just want more betas, the best solution is to buy those small plastic containers sold at places like Petsmart, containers that are meant for betas; the single-celled containers are a less stressful environment for the betas, because you can separate them so they won't antagonize each other.
However, stores also sell larger containers with a divider in the middle, which leaves room for two betas.
Large glass fish bowls are also a novel idea, because they have plenty of room for pretty rocks, air pumps, castles, and the like.
If your main concern is about your beta's happiness or you wonder whether it is lonely, ask me for more information about things you can add to a beta's tank for recreation (such as an air pump, live plants, structures to hide in, etc.). There are quite a few things that can very much add to your beta's quality of life.
How long do male betta's live for in a bowl?
If you take really good care of you male betta fish then he could live up to 5years. Like, if you change their water like twice a week and if you feed them about twice a day and if you buy a little plant that they sell at pet stores,it's a little plant that goes at the bottom of your fish bowl and it gives the fish oxygen. But, if you decide to not take good care of your betta fish then he could only live for a couple of monthes.
Hope that this helped you.
Where do bettas originate from?
Betta fish originated in Thailand, and spread all over Asia. Today's Betta's are far more elaborate than their ancestors, who were dull in color. Those ancient bettas lived in puddles, rice paddies, and slow-moving streams.
Beta fish come from Thailand and Cambodia, but they live all over Asia. Beta fish live in small ponds, rivers, and even drains.
