Well out of personal, hilarious situations... you can actually attract quite a bit of bait fish with... now hear me on this, beef jerky. I plunged some in the water and the fish attacked it like wild piranha!!!

So in that try beef jerky ( I had the tariaki kind)

A snail is a slow paced creature, were a fighting fish can and does cause trouble in a lot of tanks, a snail is no match for a betta, the snail in a tank or bowl with a fighting fish is just food for the fish, the movement of the snail will attract the fish to the snail, the snail will because of such a small area to move around in should not last long, and sometimes the fish may not bother the snail if there is enough hiding places for the snail to hide or get too. The odds are in favor of the fish.

If there are long stringy pieces of fin left, it's tail biting caused by stress or boredom.

Anything else, it's fin rot caused by filthy water. Way to go.

no. the male betta just cares for the eggs. the male betta does somthing to the female called an embrace, he basicly hugs the eggs out of her than he kills the female or his just fights with her until she leaves him alone. then he cares for the eggs until hatching.

You need to treat it because of the chlorine in the water, to much will kill the fish! Keo depends on the amount of water with chlorine you mix with water that has no chlorine. also sunlight takes chlorine out of water so outdoor ponds don't need it Yes, always treat. You can leave out tap water for the chlorine to evaporate out however, chlorine is not the only additve in tap water that is deadly to fish. Chloramine is just as deadly and does not evaporate.

Provided you give the fish heaps of room,(more than 1 gallon of water per 1 inch of fish) the correct temperature, good food, good filtration, and regular weekly water changes they should be OK.

Angelfish will likely pick and nip at fighting fish if put in the same aquarium.

There could be several reasons for that kind of behaviour. Is the tank lit and planted with aquascaping and a filter running and is it at least a 3 gallon capacity tank? If not, then the fish is in similar conditions to a person locked up in solitary confinement. I guess you would loose your drive and interest in life if you were shut up in a tiny confined space for ever. The other possibility is closely related to the first and could be poor water quality. My advice is to try a properly set up tank with heater, thermometer, gravel, rocks, plants, lights etc. Your fish will suddenly take an interest in life again.

They like night and day cycles and prefer subdued lighting or at least hiding places in an over lit tank.

They are not nocturnal fish so they wouldn't be comfortable in a constantly artificially darkened aquarium either.

9 Fishes are a good number. The arrangement should have bright coloured fish: 3 of one type, 5 of another (avoid 4 because the pronouciation 4 in Chinese is similar to "death" or "die" and then 1 should be black or dark coloured to pull away the "Cha Chi" or negative energy. there are other numbers you can go for (e.g 16 as this is a "good" number) the most important thing is to keep the fish tank clean and tidy and remove & replace any that die as its considered that if one of them die - then they blocked the negative energy or misfortune for you. Fish tank should never be placed in the "earth" section of the room ("muddy waters" will cause you to feel sick or have problems) keep the tank natural looking is best.

Female betta fish can last as lond as five years. But as always, it depends on how you take care of them. They need proper feeding, and they always need a clean tank at least once a week. This is the same for male bettas as well.

yes but there has to be two females and one male. two males can not live together and one female and a male cant live together because all the male want is to get with them.also if u have a filter the eggs if they mate will not survive. hope this helped.

When starting a new aquarium sometimes it is best that before you put any fish in it that you let it cycle (let the filter and other equipment run) for about a week or two. This helps the good bacteria needed for fish survival to build up so that when your fish is added it doesn't struggle with building it up himself.

Live foods such as Brine shrimp, Daphnia, Cyclops, White worms. Even finely chopped earthworms are great food for them. At least some of these foods are available at the better pet shops.

It could possibly be a few things....

1.Its a female and this is known as the egg spot.

2.It has a infection (bacterial or parasitic) under its skin that should be treated.

3.A small white dot could be ich, also will need meds.

4.Or it could be a birth defect of some sort.

Male Siamese Fighting Fish (bettas) are highly territorial. In the wild, if a male betta encountered another betta they may choose to squabble over territory. However, it is more likey that the weaker male would leave to avoid getting him hurt. If the body of water is too small for both males to hold territories (ie. anything less than about 1000 gallons) they will fight, sometimes to the death. This behavior is not difficult to replicate in a small aquarium - add water, add two male bettas, sit back and watch. In some Asian countries, betta fighting is an actual sport, like cock fighting, and people go to watch and bet on it. The Asian fighting bettas are very well cared for, but unfortunately European and American copycats do not care for their bettas as well. Please don't make bettas fight. It's natural behavior and if you do not know exactly what you are doing (ie selecting evenly matched stock, choosing the right fighting strain, removing the fish at the right moment to avoid serious injury and treating them afterwards) do not exploit their instincts for your own entertainment. It is cruel to do so.

Betta's are prone to jumping out of the bowl when it is filled right to the top. You betta probably jumped because it was trying to explore its surroundings, and didntr realize that outside of its bowl was not a safe area for a fish. Preventing bettas from jumping out is as simple as leaving 2-3" of the bowl unfilled in the future.

The number of young produced per batch by fish varies enormously by species. Fish that provide more care or retain the eggs longer, such as mouth brooders and live bearers, produce very small numbers of young, 10 or 20 perhaps. Some sharks only produce one or two young at a time.

Other fish which, such as most broadcast spawners in the open ocean, can produce thousands upon thousands of eggs per breeding cycle.

Depends on the size of your tank and the number of fish you have in there. Air bubblers are not really necessary but a cycled filter is a MUST HAVE.

Ohhh, No wonder my guppies died..

I juss put them in a bowl of tap water and they died..

I thought they didnt need anything but water and food..

1 male and 1 female will breed, 2 males will fight until 1 is too injured to continue and eventually 1 dies, 2 females, they will still fight. If you have at least 6 female bettas, they won't fight. If you have less than 3, they will fight.

Has it been in any fights of accidents? If it has a white mark and it has been in a fight it is a wound that is healing. If not it may well be an infection of some kind. Hope that helps

Some of the most common species of freshwater tropical fish are guppies, various tetras, platies, swordtails (a relative of platies), various corydoras catfish, various species of plecostomus, and angelfish.

To keep goldfish healthy, they need clean water so consider a water filter which can be bought from a local aquatic shop and some toys to keep them entertained, some can be attached to a water pump to make bubbles to be fun and entertaining for your fish. Live plants and fake can be bought too to create a real atmosphere. They should be fed every day, for one goldfish they need a pinch of food in the morning and a pinch of food at night but consider more for the more fish you have. You should consider buying some oxygen gravel or just plain to also be more realistic but you could also have sand (from an aquatic shop only!), make sure you don't mix any tropical fish with them unless they are fresh water!
