What tropical fish can live with betas?
Most tetras get along very well with tropical community fish such as guppies, platies, and mollies. Depending on the size of the tetra, you may also be able to put some of the more docile semi-agressives in there as well. To be safe, avoid putting anything in your tank that can fit your tetras in it's mouth.
Yes.
For example, there is a place along the Fraser River in British Columbia called Hell's Gate. There, in 1914, the channel was accidentally narrowed by careless blasting on the canyon walls. That made the water so swift that the salmon population in that area crashed because most of the fish didn't have the stamina to make it up the faster current. In an attempt to restore the population, shelters were constructed along the banks, called "fishways". The current is slowed down in those shelters, giving the salmon a chance to rest and regain their strength.
What causes fin rot in Betta's?
Parasites or bacterial infection; Fin Rot disease. With Fin Rot, both the fins and the tail can be affected. The bacteria that causes fin rot is commonly present in the aquarium. However, it usually doesn't infect the fish unless they are injured or stressed in some way. Once the fins are torn a bacterial or even a fungal infection can easily invade the injured tail or fins.
What are some names of glo fish?
A goldfish will typically eat anything that will fit into it's mouth that it can catch. I mean anything. I know from personal experience. So once they get really big, you have to watch and make sure the little fishes are a lot faster than Goldy. :) Hope this helps.
Yes they need plain water or they will die because they can't breath in the water.

If your betta fish has babies will the male betta fish eat them?
yes after mating a female will be tired and hungry and if the male does not run her away she may eat the eggs for energy.
Why does your betta fish sit at the bottom?
The betta is ill, most likely a result of a swim bladder problem, which causes the fish to be enable to stay afloat for long.
If you want the animal to live, action must be taken immediately.
The most probable cause of this is by feeding the fish bloodworms ( a pet store recommended food that almost always gives the fish constipation).
Constipation will cause the fishes death if not treated. Treat in the following way. Stop feeding the fish for several days. Then give the fish a cooked pea with the outer part peeled off. Use a toothpick or something else to encourage the fish to bite. After a few of these meals, see if the fish is starting to get over it.
If this does not work, it may be a more serious problem with the swim bladder, either by infection, trauma, or other reasons. Look for the information, it is available on the web at other sources.
Answer 2:
Your Betta may be sick, but before you go guessing what terrible disease he has, and trying remedies for illnesses he might not have, check the temperature of the tank! Bettas become listless if they are kept at too low a temperature. I've seen it happen many times. If the tank is in the low to mid 70's, all you have to do is gradually raise the temperature to 80 degrees, and your fish will come to life.
Answer 3:
Like what answer 1 & 2 have said your betta fish may be sick. You should double check everything. Look at the pH levels, see if the temp. is good, betta's become lifeless if it is not the right temp... etc.
Your betta could also be sick & tired of the same home. Try move the decors into different spots in the tank. When cleaning only take out 1/3 of the water, and use a gravel vac to clean the gravel.. :s If you betta is still like this try adding some aq. salt to help if he is sick, and increase the temp. Hope your betta gets betta :P !!! Good luck.
He needs a heater. That's it. Simply as that.
How many eggs does a betta lay?
Bettas are difficult to breed, and not recommended for beginners. Females can be identified by a small, white 'pearl' at the rectum. This is called an ovipositor, most visible from below the fish. They lay egg clutches of approximately 100-500 eggs, rarely over 600 eggs. However, sometimes males have this as well, making it difficult to tell.
The male tends the eggs and newborns. Betta males build bubble nests of various sizes and thicknesses on the top of their tanks, sometimes even when not in the presence of female or young. Quick temperature change, barometer changes, materials in the tank, and presences of other males or females all have been shown to stimulate bubble nest construction. However, after the young fish are swimming freely, the chore of tending them falls upon the human owner. Therefore, it is advisable to research and prepare baby food, baby-ready (cycled) tanks, etc. prior to actual breeding. Some of these foods improve its actions such as speed, growth, and energy.

How long to wait after adding water conditioner to put fish in bowl?
Wneh changing water for a Betta it is always better to simply let the fresh water stand (in a bucket or other container) overnignt before using it. The chlorine will evaporate off naturally. Then you don't need to put chemicals in the water to remove the chlorine. If you do use one of the many different chlorine removing chemicals it is best to read and follow the instructions on the packaging.
Can a 3 girl Bettas live in a 1 gallon tank?
No.The tank is WAY too small for two bettas. But you could try 4gallon. BUT!You can't keep two female bettas together in the first place:P You have to have at least three or more(odd numbers work best) to have a good balance of aggression in the tank. For three bettas, you'll need a 6 gallon tank(two gal. for every betta). You'll also have to have lots of hiding places too.
I hope I helped you with your problem!

Female Betta need to be in groups of four or more. They are aggressive and if you only have two, they will likely kill each other. If you have enough of them, the aggression is spread out and they can be relatively healthy and happy.
It is only a myth that female bettas will not fight each other - they are very territorial and can be as aggressive as the males. One will try to dominate the other. Try introducing them after a water change, and try to put them in the tank as closely to the same time as possible, so they dont become too territorial. It is not recommended to put them in a group of three as two may team up and pick on the third fish.
If you notice them fighting, just create a water current manually, as this will discourage the behavior, and after two-three days they should get along fine.
Provide lots of hiding spots for them! This will allow them to hide and rest we they need to.
Never mix male and female Betta outside of breeding a pair. Also, never tank multiple males together because they will kill each other.
Also, it's best to have 2 gallons of water per fish. I recommend a 10 gallon tank with 4 or 5 female Betta. You might be able to house 3 Betta in a 5 1/2 gallon tank, but that won't leave much room for anything else.

Can female betta live together?
Yes, they will get along fine as long as they have enough room.
Bettas, like most other fish, like to swim around. A single male betta needs a 5-10 gallon tank with a heater and filter for optimum health. Four or five females would be fine in 10 gallons. Plants and caves make it more interesting for them and a couple of rasboras might work as tank mates for the single male, depending on his aggressive tendencies. males can't be kept with other bettas, but do appreciate tank mates if they have room.
People tend to think they don't live long, but if they have enough room, clean water (filter), and consistent temperature (heater), they will be much less stressed and can live for a lot longer than expected.
Why are betta fish aggressive?
Some times the fish have been brought up in an environment in which they have to be aggressive in order to survive.....................when buying a fish and looking for a nonaggressive one get the least aggressive looking one but not hte shyest....for sometimes the shyest are very sick! I hope that helps!
What type of fish get along with bettas?
Well with a male NOTHING! Well it depends on what the attitude of the male betta fish is. To be safe though do not put anthing with a male.
As for a female you can put a lot of fish. Here are just a few, Guppie, another female betta (up to 3)(not male) there are a lot of others I just can't think of them right now sorry!
I can assure you the Betta does not think of you as a mate. They are not stupid and do know a female of their own species. Your Betta has simply reached sexual maturity and is building his display home in the hope that if a lady Betta comes along he can convince her to make fertile eggs with him under it.
When you get a new tank for your Betta fish do you have to clean it with soap?
Hope this helps you =)

Can angelfish and goldfish be kept together?
Angel fish (Pterophylum scalare) are one of the most tropical fish coming from the Amazon. Goldfish (Carassius auratus) are cold water fish. They both need totally different condtions and water qualities. So the answer is they could live together provided the water is kept warm and pure enough for the Angelfish but they will not do well.
No i wouldn't recommend it.... goldfishes live in cold waters and angel fish live in warm water so that wouldn't really be a good match up
How much food does a goldfish eat?
A goldfish will only eat as much as it needs. It will stop eating when it has had enough. It is impossible to overfeed goldfish. You should give a goldfish small amounts of food for up to 15 minutes. What it does not eat in those 15 minutes must be syphoned out. Food must never be left in the tank because it will poison the water and kill the fish.
How do you tell if tropical fish are male or female?
hey man i think its in their fins.If its male its fins are longer and when its female its fins are short. That is because of their growth. The male tilapia grows faster and much bigger than Female Tilapia.Dude just want to help you.
Do betta fish know and respond to their owners?
They will over feed but wont eat everything that you put in there. Just put in enough food so that all of it is eaten in 5-10 minutes or so. Any more and the excess food or fish poop will foul up the water quickly.
Yes, they do. They tend to swim away from the food and ignore it or they might just keep eating. Try 1 flake/pellet to see if they are hungry and the put in 3-4 more in. Some good snacks-that can substitute for normal food-are freeze dried shrimp, live brine shrimp, live blood worms and freeze dried blood worms.
How does Betta fish protect themselves?
Only two males will fight. They start off by showing off (threatening) one another. In the wild, one of the fish at this 'show off' stage will normally back off and swim away. In captivity, where neither fish can flee, theone of the fish will strike and a fight will ensue. Since neither fish can back off or flee, both fish must now fight to try to protect itself. Eventually, if the fish are not separated, one will be killed. Hence the story of the Siamese fighter fighting to the death. As you can see, it is just man manipulating the fish and forcing the fish to fight. This "fish fighting" is banned in all civilised countries.
How do you know when a betta fish is about to lay eggs?
You don't really. You can try it though. Almost always when you put a female and male in one tank, they spend the first ten minutes fighting and then in a few hours they will. watch them, once you are sure she is done, take the parents out into separate tanks. If you don't remove them, they will eat the eggs. In about a week, they will hatch. If you want more, the soonest they can again would be in a month or until the last are full grown. You don't know when they want to, but there is a 90% chance they will. Go to my friend's role play website- bettafishstream.webs.com
Do betta fish attack goldfish?
Ther are at least 2 reasons why a Betta will not kill a goldfish. 1 A male Betta will only attack and fight another male Betta. 2, They should never meet. Bettas are tropical fish and need to be kept at around 78F and Goldfish are coldwater fish and should be kept at below 70F. In order to be successfull keeping any fish, (coldwater or tropical) the basic rules apply. The rules are :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs to have a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. Keep to the above rules and your fish will stand a chance of survival. Fail in any and I can guarantee that your fish will have constant health problems and will live a shortened life span.
