And also, fish cannot live infinitely. Most bettas will live to be 3-4 years, however mine died at age 8 because of old-age.

It really depends on the Betta. Like if it's a female or male. If it's a male, you could try snails or an african dwarf frog. But if it's a female Betta you have a little more variety like a second female Betta or a few neon tetras. Also though, the tank isn't really suitable for holding many fish considering it's size so be wary of your choices.

hi the only fish you can keep in a bowl with out a fiiter and a heater is the buitiful BETTA they can have it but they dont need it. My betta actually hates heaters and filters he love just water. Gold fish need filters but bettas are really hardy and just never put two males togeter the will fight . Hope this helps :)

Betta fish, or an kind of fish, have no eyelids, so h may be sleeping and you just can't tell because his eyes aren't closed. He may not sleep at night until everything in the room he's in is quiet or dark. If you just got him, it may be because he's nervous about his new home.

Females can sometimes be kept together if the tank is big enough. A 5 gallon tank with 4 or 5 females and lots of hiding places is suitable. Never keep females together if you have less than 4, as one will bully the others.

The ability to add tankmates often depends on the disposition of your betta. If he's docile, you may be able to add some white clouds. It's very rare to find such a betta.

Bettas live in low oxygen water and will, in the wild, aggressively drive away all other fish that are using up their air, especially other male bettas (competition) with which they will fight to the death. In the wild, males will only allow females near them when mating. If a female who is not ready to mate encounters a male, she will simply leave. If you want to breed bettas, keep her in a small tank next to your male betta tank so he can see her and she can fill up with eggs first. When introducing the female to his tank, keep her inside a glass jar so he cannot get to her until the bubble nest is built and she is ready to spawn with him. As soon as they have finished spawning the female must be removed immediately.

When not breeding, keeping both male and female bettas in the same tank is absolutely impossible. Males do not see females as anything except potential opportunities to breed or else potential dangers to any eggs they are guarding, the food supply and the oxygen supply.

well this won't be much help becase its not a fish but i know that snails will do veary veary well with bettas. sorry that's all i know... :)

I have two beta fish also and i noticed one day there was a bubble nest in the tank. So I went on-line and did research on-line and found out that they do this because they are happy, healthy, and getting ready to mate. They use this nest for their eggs and it is usually under a decoration or near a plant for protection. Try not to move or destroy the nest for they take a long time to make and the fish apparently like it there. They wont keep making the nest if it is removed for my fish went only about a month and stopped making it, so if they stop don't find it a bad thing, for I'm sure the fish is still happy and healthy as ever. But do not mate the beta fish if you are not experienced with it, for beta fish HATE being in the same tank as another for they will try to kill each other. How do I know this? I did research and I sadly have tried it myself.

Male betta fish tend to be very aggressive. They are best alone unless theres a special type of specie they can get along with. They like to have personal space. And as using fighter fish you probably refer to Siamese fighting fish which is betta fish

Basically, stay away from fish that are significantly smaller than the betta as he may think "Yay! Dinner!", and avoid nipping fish, it's best to try some google links and also ask the retailers, they may not provide all the information you need, but they can provide enough that you can get to a good start.

I find young cat fish about 2-4in long get along well, but beware that these fish grow large and will eat the betta once it's mouth is big enough that it'll fit.

The Betta is actually a very good community fish (as long as the aquarium is large enough), and it will get along with most other species of fish. You just cannot put two Betta males together in the same tank. the only thing that really bugs a beta is other fish with big fins, it seem's that they have a complex they need to deal with. Tetras and small catfish like bristlenose and corydoras are good tank mates for fighting fish. also you cant put female betta but you have to check that they don't beat up one another

(This converts deadly Ammonia into none deadly Nitrate):- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. (This prevents a build up of excessive Nitrate.) Keep your Betta at around 78F, feed it proper Betta food and follow the above rules and your fish stand a chance. Fail in any of them and I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting sick and will live a shortened lifespan.

A Male Betta is only aggressive towards another Betta. They will not fight any other species.

they can swim away incredibly fast..they can also hit with there tails, bit with there teeth and jump out of the water to avoid being chased by other fish.

Many fish have protective strategies, and body armor, spines , camouflage, not to mention just plain poisonous.

If you're asking this for an assignment you would be better off looking for scientific studies on the subject. From my own experience, bettas are intelligent as far as fish go. I know of some fish that have been trained to jump out of the water for a pellet stuck to somebody's finger with a droplet of water. This indicates that they must be able to see the pellet, because they don't jump if the same person holds the same finger out with nothing on it. My own bettas recognise my hand as opposed to any other object if I stick it in the tank, and will come up for a pat.

Most pet shops that stock tropical fish will be able to get you a female 'Betta splendens'. (that's its' correct name). I would advise you not to use the name 'Chinese fighting fish' 'Cos they may not know what kind of fish you mean since they do not come from China. If you really want to call it a 'Fighting Fish' then use the name 'Siamese Fighting Fish'. Most folks will understand that.

probably because he is mad that you are in "his territory" male Bettas do that when another is in his territory. like if you put two male Bettas together ( which you don't want to do) they will flare their gills out at each other and end up killing one another... not good. anyway yea they will do the same thing if you put a mirror up to them so the fish can see his self. it can be very amusing! :)

Yes, crowntail females can mate with halfmoon males, and vice versa.

Any type of betta can mate with any another type. Veiltails with halfmoons, deltas with crowntails, etc.

But most people prefer to breed bettas with their own type because they plan to sell them, and most people don't want "mutts". They can also keep the coloration, finnage, and physical characeteristics of the betta type. It is much easier to sell these purebred bettas.

If you planning on breeding the crowntail and halfmoon and selling, I highly suggest that you reconsider this. Get a two quality bettas (same type) from a good breeder.
