Betta and Siamese Fighting Fish

While I don't believe in keeping fish in a bowl you should never use distilled water to keep fish in. It will kill them eventually. Tap water is perfect for most fish once the chlorine has been removed/evaporated off. You can do this by simply leaving the water in a bucket overnight. I refuse to waste money on water conditioners.

Well, yes if you train it (If that is even possible). Some are not aggressive, too though. I had one and it was like real friendly toward my black morre.

From what i have heard.....you can't . Because all they would do is fight each other to the death which is deffinatly what you DON'T want them to do. Then you end up with either one dead fish and one alive or both dead. Don't chance it! Hope this helped (:

If you have an actual bowl and not an aquarium, then you would not want to be putting a lid on. Goldfish bowls have very small surface area for the water and that affects how much oxygen your fish can get. They actually aren't that good for them. Putting a lid on would reduce this even further. Aquariums can be covered with glass especially supplied, although it won't be a complete cover.

Small bubbles on the surface, especially if they adhere to the sides, are a sign of low oxygen in the water. Change the water immediately, improve filtration and aerate the water more, and change it more frequently.

You need to keep a betta in warm water with a temperate of 75-85 degrees. If you keep it in cold water it will eventually get sick and die

Well my male betta,Right when I got it 1 or 2 weeks later it had bubbles,calleds bubble nests they are together on the side of the bowl, and after that it had over 75 bubbles! I saw him make one a couple of times it looks like he is reaching for air and goes on the surface of the bowl? so, 1-4 weeks he starts makeing them,And he makes about 75 in 1 week or 2!

you shouldn't have them together unless breeding. if you are breeding the male is still very agressive. tends to bite off her fins so she cant swim away so he can breed with her. - not exactly romantic!

Different fish species need different conditions and temperatures. Basically, Goldfish are coldwater fish and should be kept below around 70F. Livebearers like Platys and Guppies need around 70F to 75F, Bettas and Gouramies need 75F to 80F, and most Amazonian fish including Neons and large Cichlids need around 78F to 85F.

They are very-low maintence,so bigger fish than a goldfish would be messier.

Some of the basic things that can stress your Betta fish would be:

- Having other Betta fish in the same tank (they are very aggressive)

- Cool water temperatures (should be 78 on average)

- Water currents (water should be fairly still)

- Removing your Betta fish from tank too often

Among many others. But the biggest one would be having an UNCLEAN TANK. The water should be changed at least once a week to keep your Betta fish happy and healthy.

Put a male and a female together in a large tank with a place for the female to hide and for them to swim and they should have babies called fry.

If you have had the fish for over 1 year to 18 months there is a good chance the fish is getting very old and reaching the end of its natural life span. Use your powers of observation and memory to see if the fish is behaving normally or abnormally. If it is not behaving normally then use a mirror to see if the fish will show off to its' own reflection. If the fish fails to display (show off), there is a good chance the fish has lost interest in life and will die fairly soon. A good large water change can work wonders and revitalise a fish too.

The beta is an extremely territorial fish, and when it feels threatened it goes kung fu on whatever is threatening it. You answer is yes. CAUTION Neon tetras are the best to mix with betas, but make sure they are smaller than the beta and have a school of them 5 should do nicely. You can mix other fish, but here are the rules: They must be smaller and faster than the beta. They cannot have any long or flowing fins similar to the beta. Yes they just touch the Betta fish to paralyze it and then eat.

They are considered fin nippers. However, they are compatible fish for bettas. They are schooling fish so I would at least get 4 or more. When purchasing the fish ask the seller/retailer about their return policy; you may be able to return them without penalty if they pester your betta, or the possibility your betta ends up being to aggressive for tank mates. I don't know where you got that funny idea about male Bettas usually being red. It is totally incorrect. Male Bettas come in Blue, Green, Red, Purple and any combination of those. They even come with those coloured fins and a cream coloured contrasting body too. The little white balls you see are probably fungusy/rotting Betta pellets (food) that you have failed to remove. (This should be done immediately. NOW!) You will need to look after the fishes water conditions much better than you have been doing if you want the fish to live a reasonable existance. The basic rules for looking after any fish sucessfully are. 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water (a Betta is a three inch fish). :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. Never ever leave uneaten food in a tank it will poison the water and kill the fish.

Fish are usually most comfortable when you house them one fish per gallon. Female bettas, unlike the males, don't really have any restrictions on how many individuals you have as long as you adhere to the one per gallon philosophy.

This is extremely unlikely to be correct. The most probable cause is swim bladder disease which is a common problem in Betta fish. I suggest Googling this. There are a lot of great sites on there with instructions on how to treat this.

there are many different types of fish. and they all mate differently. most fish mate in the spring. but for this to happen all conditions that the fish need must be met. also in order fot the baby fish to live you need to do certain things, these are different for each kind of fish

Please be advised that you must be able to separate the pregnant fish before she gives birth. I use a guppy tank or a breeder tank. After she gives birth watch because most fish will eat their young and the mother will have to be separated from the young. Tropical fish are either live bearers like a guppy or a black molly or lay eggs like tetras and barbs. It is more difficult to find salt water fish that mate in a home tank.
