Bettas and African dwarf frogs do well together, but make sure your tank is large enough (at least 2.5 gallons) and there are plenty of hiding spots for the frog. Also, watch them when you feed to make sure that the betta isn't eating the frog's food, and be extra careful that you keep the water clean as frogs breathe through their skin.

(For the record, ADF are not the only thing you can house with bettas. They are also fine with mystery snails and gentle community fish that do not have long colorful tails (ie a female guppy or maybe a molly). Female bettas are good with each other and pretty much any gentle tropical fish.

This depends on what you mean by backflips. If it's just a way of swimming, but otherwise your betta swims upright and normal most of the time, then it's just being a fish.

Yes, but the remedy is simple. Your pet store should be able to sell you conditioning drops which you add to the water and it's instantly habitable. The bottle will supply the dosage; generally, the method is to scoop out a cup or two of water every couple of days, and replace it with fresh water plus the drops.

Another idea: Keeping the water "correct" for my betta fish was probably the biggest problem I had! That is, UNTIL I discovered that buying the real, pure bottled water (not the bottled water that is really someone else's tap water) - true spring water - will solve that problem! I began using the bottled spring water along with the Aquari-Sol drops, and the water was fine for the fish.

I hope your bettas live longer than mine did! They are very interesting to watch, and fun to try to teach tricks to! If you provide frequent "stimulation" to yours, perhaps you can teach one of yours to ring a bell outside of the tank, as I failed to do. My Red came very close to it, I think. (Blue was afraid of the sound.) When I say stimulation, I mean frequent visits, talking to yours, perhaps touching yours, getting very close to him. Always talk to him, when you are near. Just from my own experience, I believe it increases their intelligence.

When your betta fish dies and you want to bury it find a small container to put it in and find some soft padding (napkins,cloth,etc.) Bury it somewhere safe and nice like a garden its hard to let go of a friend but its best to put it to rest :)

It should be changed often, especially if not filtered. A betta MUST be kept either in a room with central heating, or in a heated tank or bowl. The water should not be allowed to drop below 18 degrees C.

Well, try giving it one pellet to see if its hungry and then put in 3-4 pellets for it to eat. Some good treats for your fish are live blood worms, live brine shrimp, freeze dried blood worms and freeze dried shrimp. it is always good to get some kind of filter for your fish, but natural ponds dont' always need one. the filters will keep out some bad bacteria though, and keep your fish healthy longer, and allow you to actually see them. goldfish are very hardy and can withstand quite a bit.

If theyre different types of goldfish, check theyre suitable to live with each other. If they are, then theyre just fighting over space because the tanks too small. If that's the case, get a bigger one asap. Remember one goldfish needs 10 gallons of water >_< So a couple will need a LOT!!

Bettas are fun and educational to breed. One must have a male and a female, and they are easy to tell apart (the female has short fins and dull color, and the male has long fins and bright color). The fish need to be well-fed, and the tank needs to be big enough so they're not crowded until they FEEEEEL like gettin' it together, hm. The water needs to be about 78-82 degrees. With the above in mind, the process is as follows: The male will 'build a bubble nest'...that is to say, he will blow bubbles at the top of the water and stick them together and blow MORE bubbles until he has a mass of bubbles which is, like, a couple inches around and a half-or-three-quarter inch thick. Then he will Show Out in a Big Way for the female, to get her to come over and Visit his nest. And if she is well-fed and full of eggs, and if he is Cute....she will come. Next he will bend his body around hers...she will let out eggs, and he will let out milt (which is the Fish Name for sperm, eh). The eggs and milt will float upwards into the bubbles, and Combine to become Fertilized Eggs. After that, the male is done with the female and will chase her away. You should take her out of the tank, unless it is a large tank. The male will tend the nest and the eggs in a V. Dedicated Fashion. In a few days, the eggs will hatch. But they won't be able to swim just yet, so the male will continue to take care of them by taking them in his mouth when they fall out and spitting them back up into the nest. In a couple more days, the baby fish will be able to swim on their own. The male will herd them around for a couple days and Protect them...but then he will lose interest and leave them to fend for themselves. You can take the male out, too, because after he begins to lose interest, it is possible that he will start Eating them...by accident. Fish are not all *that* smart, see. But as fish go, the male Betta is a very good parent! Most fish just spew their eggs anywhere and go on about their fishy business right away.

No it will not work. You can not control the heat of the water which needs to be around 78F. At night when the light is off the fish will be chilled. During the day when the light is on the surface of the water could be very hot and the bottom cold. Also the heat from the light globe will dry the air which will make it bad for the Betta to breathe. Heater/thermostats are a cheap item as is a thermometer, an air pump and a filter. They are all necessary items if you wish to keep tropical fish alive and healthy.

Yes - but only if the apartment is centrally heated, or you can heat the bowl. Bettas are tropical fish that need heaters. If you cannot provide enough warmth, the best option is to put a bubbler (a small corner filter) in the bowl and then buy three white cloud mountain minnows. They are coldwater fish and will tolerate very low temperatures. DO NOT buy goldfish. They are absolutely unsuitable for bowls and hav the potential to grow up to a foot long. The absolute minimum tank size for one goldfish is 20 gallons, with 10 gallons extra needed for every additional goldfish. Also note that there's no 'them'. A fish bowl is really only suitable for one betta. You cannot keep multiple males, or females with males. You can keep females together but only when there are four or five of them (or more) and they are in a large tank with plenty of places to hide. This is the only way to stop aggression. Bettas have so much personality that one in a bowl is still a great display, particularly if you add some decorations.

They can live together but you will have to be carefull with the temperature setting of your heater/thermostat and try to keep the tank fairly steady at around 75F to suit both species of fish. Bettas are insectivores and need more protein than guppies so it is a good idea to feed the fish a few Betta pellets and live brine shrimp occasionally.

well, it depends what kind of fish you are talking about. If you are talking about 2 goldfish, they will never do will. After a whild, they will kill eachother. Same thing with Betta fish, i think. Some other kinds of fish might interact well though.
