In the wild, yes, betta fish are carnivorous and are thus required to hunt for food. If you put a live bloodworm into a betta's tank, you can see from the body language of the fish that it is "eyeballing" or even stalking the worm.

If you have a beta fish, you CAN put it in a tank with another fish IF that fish does NOT have flowing fins or tails, such as a goldfish OR DO NOT put it with a fish that's not social and that attacks other fish so you CAN put a beta fish with another fish if it's not very pretty so it doesn't look like a beta and if the other fish isn't a fighter.

Many types of plant eating fish will eat regular lettuce. Goldfish included. Its not a great food, because it has almost no nutritional value, but it is good for providing roughage and behavioral enrichment.

petco because petsmart is more of a dog and cat store even though they do have fish stuff. Petco is more generalized in pet areas

Petsmart is the better choice because of the better stuff they add in the fish food like iron, vitimine A, vitimine B1, vitimine B12 and calcum the point is you more for less! trust me i have a fish too his name is stripes cause he has stripes all over him:) and I give him petsmart fish food TOO!

The betta fish I bought from Petsmart came with fin rot and died in a week.

While this question has nothing to do with fish and should be elsewhere I can answer you. The Okapi is related to the Giraffe and is the same as most other mammals having external genital organs just like you and I do. The males have the normal Testes in a Scrotum and a Penis in its sheath under the body and between the animals legs. The female has a Vulva in close proximity to its Anus. So, the way to tell the difference is simply to look.

Why WOULDN'T it kill a fish? When is it ever a good idea to just put any questionable material in a fish tank?

no because if they do they will fight and kill each other or cause major injuries like a stared fin death or other injuries

The male will go over to the female and will almost "hug" her causing her to drop her egss, they will do this many times before they are done breeding. The male will then pick the eggs up in his mouth and carry them to a nest that he made before the female was even in the same tank with him.

This is not reccomended. One time my sister looked after the school gerbils who were thought to be both female, during the summer holidays i saw one gerbil in a corner with a big blur of pink, i called my mum and we looked in the cage, only to find that she had given birth to a litter of 6 baby gerbils. This was dangerous to keep the boy gerbil in as he would eat the babies and both parents would attack each other, so we had to separate them. DO NOT TOUCH BABIES as the mother won't recognise their scent and will abandon them.

So in response to your question, it is best to keep gerbils together, 2 females is a good combination as males fight over the alpha roll, but it is a bad decision to put a male and female together.

Male bettas only live about 2-3 years in good conditions!That means one that is not being bred.Breeding will beat the life right out of your bettas.Plenty of live food will help expand the life of any freshwater fish. Also,If you love your pet and want him or her to live a long happy life i suggest at least a 10 gallon tank for all betta species! Male Betta fish live alone and should't be in the same tank.

Some fish show no visible differences in the sexes while in others the differences are very large and obvious. It all depends on the Genera and species of fish and sometimes also the sub species.

i would recommend fish that look different from your male betta. male bettas fight other male bettas, and if aggravated they will try to tear apart most fish with flowing fins. they dont even seem to care about size. i recommend catfish and mollies. stay away from fin nippers. and any fish with long fins, even long tailed guppies. you could keep your betta with angelfish too, but angelfish need a really big tank, like 30-40 gallons (for one or two angels).

Betta splendens? No they don't, they sink. This is why the male Betta blows a bubble nest, each egg gets a bubble and that's how it stays a float. Occasionally they will become unstuck and sink, it's the male Betta's job to catch it and put it back into the bubbles!

I've always been told that bettas should live seperately which seem rediculous because they don't live like that in nature. Yes, bettas can live with other fish. Male bettas can get along with plecos, some tetras, mollies, guppies (not the fancy sort), etc. They should not be put with fish that have long fins, nor should they be kept with fish nippers (like barbs). Males can not live with other bettas though. Female bettas can live with other female bettas (as long as there are more than two females since they have a pecking order). Female bettas can live with the type of fish I described for the male, as well. Just be careful with tank mates, and have a back up plan if the fish do not get along. Make sure each fish has plenty of space and love, and you should be fine.

Fin rot while it is on the fins doesn't really harm the fish too much. The point is, you have to stop it when it starts, because like a vehicle that rusts, the rot will eat its way down to the body.

Nope...I touch my fish and he is still living! It also depends on the fish as to whether or not they will let you. I have my fish in my room, I see him every day, and talk to him. I knows me and trusts me and will actually come up if I put my finger in the water. On the other hand my bfs betta is in the dining room, and he is hardly ever home and never talks to it. It shunns away if you just put your finger on the glass near him!

Betta fish have a wonderfull varity of sharp teeth in the front to eat and to bite to protect its self and a place in the back to keep there babys eggs. and yes my betta fish bites anyting else but me and things in its fish tank because its used to me but if you get a betta fish i strongly suggest that you don't put your finger in its tank until its like almost 4 months in your care

Yes Bettas will remember and recognise people particularly those who feed them or who give them a hard time. wat is "giving it a hard time?" Chasing them around in their aquarium with a hand or net is giving them a hard time as is shocking them by tapping on the sides of their aquarium.

This largely depends on how well you condition the bettas before spawning, especially the female. If you try to spawn too early or do not feed her enough (in the two weeks before spawning, if she is eating everything you are offering you are not overfeeding) you will not get many eggs, maybe fifty or so. A well conditioned, fully grown female paired with an experienced male who looks after the eggs well may give you three hundred fry. A normal, well conditioned pair often lay 150 or so. Obviously it is silly to raise this many; it is best to wait until a week or so, cull everything obviously deformed or not growing, and then wait until six weeks and keep only the best to grow on. Not all of the eggs will survive. A good father will eat any egg that stops developing and becomes fungused, to protect the other eggs. However sometimes an inexperienced or confused male will spontaneously decide to eat the eggs or fry. If you can't afford to lose the spawn it is often wiser to remove the bubblenest, put it in a shallow container and float it in a heated tank. However, this does result in a lower hatch rate (50-60% as opposed to 80%.)
