Can I put 26 inch tires on a mongoose 2.1 ledge?

The ones I found on a net search already had 26" tires, so yes.

Keep in mind though that there are several different 26" sizes, and they're not compatible.

Have a look at the sidewalls of the current tires for a size designation in millimeters.

Should be 559xsomething. 559 is the diameter, and the most important number. The "something" is the width. Then buy tires that are 559 in diameter, and something like 47-54 mm wide.

What BMX is better United or Blackeye?

Well, both United and Blackeye have a full line of bikes. Blackeye comes in cheaper with their Mack at only $190. United's start at $290 with their Recruit RN1. For $10 more, you can get a bike from Blackeye that's equivalent component wise, but has a cromoly top and downtube and cromoly fork steerer (the United Recruit is all hi-tensile steel). The Blackeye is also slightly longer in the front for taller riders.

If you're comparing top of the line models, then you're putting the $500 Blackeye Killarado up against the $520 United Supreme SU2. Both are VERY similar in build quality and specs and both come with a 21" long top tube. The Blackeye comes with smaller frame size options for smaller riders, but if you need the longer 21" frame, I'd still say go with the Blackeye and save yourself $20.

Do fixie bikes have brakes?

Depends.

Fixies with sensible owners will have at least a front brake, while fixies owned by people more interested in looking cool may not have any other way of braking than putting reverse pressure on the pedals.

The above is good advice. Here is a more complete answer:

A fixed wheel bike. Or "Fixie," has a single fixed sprocket on the rear wheel, as opposed to a free-wheel. On a fixed wheel bike the pedals turn constantly, and the rider cannot coast downhill for example. A track bike designed for racing on a banked track or Velodrome, has a fixed wheel and no brakes.

On a Velodrome the cyclists are all traveling in the same direction and it is actually safer to have no brakes because no one can stop suddenly. If someone falls, a skilled track rider will try to steer around the fallen rider, rather than try to stop.

A pure track bike has no provision to fit brakes. If ridden on the road it is not strictly legal, and it is not wise to do so. It is possible to stop a fixed-wheel bike by holding back against the pedals, and is how track cyclists stop. However, for emergency stops required in traffic, at least one brake, usually a front brake is a good idea to make the bike street legal, and also for common sense safety reasons.

It is also most important to use a proper rear wheel hub, designed for a fixed sprocket. Such a hub has a right hand thread for the sprocket, and a separate stepped down left-hand thread, (Counter-clockwise.) for a lock-ring. Without such a lock ring the sprocket can unscrew, while trying to hold back against the pedals. If the sprocket unscrews all the way it can destroy both the hub and the frame, as well as causing an accident, especially if traveling at any speed.

It does take a certain amount of practice to master a fixed-wheel bike. Once the rider becomes used to the idea that he cannot stop pedaling, he will find he has more control than the conventional free-wheel bike, especially in stop and go conditions. A medium to low gear ratio is advisable for more stopping power and fast acceleration.

Can you install a kick stand on a dirt bike that doesn't have a kick stand?

Most race type dirt bikes do not have kick stands because it sticks down below the frame and will be damaged or ripped off the first time the skid plate hits a rock or log.

To install one:

Get one from a wreck or the dealer. You will most likely have to weld the mounting tab to the frame and then bolt it on and attach the hold up spring.

Can you skid on disc brakes?

As long as the brake is strong enough to lock the wheel, you can skid with any brake design.

How many links are in a mongoose model 270 bmx bikes chain?

Good bikes are made in different frame sizes. And dedicated riders often chainge the gearing ratio by replacing either the sprocket or the driver with one with another tooth count than it came with.

These things influence chain length, so you see that no one can tell how many links your chain should be.

Chains are just about Always bought a Little long, then cut to length on the bike. Faster than counting links. Chain breakers aren't expensive. Either have a shop fit the chain when you buy it, or get a chain breaker (and a quicklink) and fit it yourself.

Do note that chain, driver and sprocket wear together, but usually the chain wears the fastest.

So sticking a new chain on old sprockets can often lead to the chain skipping and slipping.

If you don't know how to measure a chain for wear, better replace aat least chain and driver at the same time.

How can I turn my vintage road bike into a fixie?

If it truly is a vintage bike - don't.

Whatever value it has will disappear when you hack it up.

But If you insist:

Start with finding out what kind of dropouts you have.

Only bikes with (semi) horizontal rear dropouts are good fixie candidates.

Next check your rear OLD - Over Locknut Distance. Basically the width of your rear hub, the distance between the rear dropouts.

Then go shopping for a fixie rear wheel with the same OLD.

Install fixie wheel. Check what your chainline looks like.

If you have a double crank, you might get a better (=more parallel with the plane of the frame) If you use the inner chainring.

If that doesn't give a tall enough gear you might have to shift the rings around. Or swap to a Single-Speed crankset and a shorter Bottom Bracket.

Once happy with that, fit chain and ride.

What is the name for bikes for disabled people?

There's no specific name for bikes for disabled people, if nothing else different disabilities would need different different kinds of adaptations to make it possible for them to ride. Foot/ lower leg amputees can ride bikes with very little changes. Hand/arm amputees require a bit more to get brakes/shifters to work.

Then there are the different versions of trikes which would be useful if you have problems balancing. These can be both uprights and recumbents(=seated)

But able-bodied people ride those too, for various reasons, so they're not considered as bikes for disabled.
