don't do it man!
Not knowing the size of the bird or the location it was found in (habitat and geographic) makes it a little bit harder to identify, but it is possible this could be a great kiskadee, one of the kingbirds, one of the vireos, a meadowlark, or a goldfinch. I really do not have enough info to answer your question. Was it a songbird or a waterbird? Did you see it in the forest or in the meadow? Do you live in D.C. or in Texas? I need to know a lot of stuff to be able to positively identify the bird. However, I can direct you to a good site for bird ID (See the related links).

What kind of bird has a red y shape on back of head and a black triangle on chest?
Your description is unfortunately fairly vague - it would help if you could give the approximate size of the bird, whereabouts you saw it (habitat, region of the US/world), what it was doing, etc.
However, based on your description, I would assume it is a Northern Flicker. If you look for it in a field guide, it is with the woodpeckers.

Does any body have a template for making a robins nest box?
How to Make a Robin Nest Box
Robins build nests in trees or on other structures. Some of us naturally think that the robins that make their nests in the most natural settings will have better success than those that nest on houses. Sure enough, once in a while a baby robin crashes to a hard cement patio and dies when it first fledges from a nest built on a porch light. Baby robins in tree nests have far softer landings in the branches below their nest branch.
Nest Boxes Can Help Protect Baby Robins
A problem even more dangerous to baby robins than falling is predation, especially by American Crows. Most crows are reluctant to come too close to buildings, so robins that nest on porch lights, window sills, eaves, and other spots on houses are usually safe from them. Robins nesting on buildings are often easy to study during their nesting period. If you want to study nesting robins, getting them to nest in a box or other structure can be good for you AND good for the robins!
