Try different types of seeds since different birds prefer different types of seed.

I found that black sunflower seeds attracted finches whilst mixed wild bird seed tends to attract sparrows and tits.

Adding a bowl of live mealworms, or a sprinkling of dried mealworms (both found in petstores) can also help to attract birds, especially robins and blackbirds who particularly love these.

A lot of it is having the patience to wait. It can take a while if you live in an urban area, but once the birds find it, they will return. They tend to visit feeders more in Winter and Spring.

There are way too many kinds to list here. There are plenty of species that haven't even been discovered yet! However, try looking through the Encyclopedia of Life (eol.org), or other sources like Wikipedia to find different species.

If it's in the Northern Hemisphere and sort of greenish, the size of a Robin, it's probably a either a Bohemian or Cedar Waxwing. See links below.

Well right now there is a robin nest on my roof. They like to build nest in trees,house,buildings, forests. There are probably a lot of other places too :)

I wish I could answer this! I just saw a bird on my feeder with black wings and back, white underbelly, and an orange chest patch. I can't find it online anywhere!! I wonder if this is the same type of bird you saw. It was in central MA.
