EVERYTHING! GSDs are larger often 65-100 lbs. and can be long or short coated BCs are always long haired a 30-55 lbs. BCs are recognized as #1 most intelligent dog and GSDs are #4. GSDs also have a stronger bite force at 238 psi and ranks in the top ten highest jaw strength for domestic dogs. I don't believe they have tested the BC, if they have i haven't found the results. They can also be black, white, sable, cream, or yellow. GSDs don't need as much exercise and can be kept as apartment dogs if given fair exercise BCs are not recommended for apartments because of there very high exercise needs.
How many times a day should you walk your border collie?
you really shouldn't walk a puppy of any kind that long because it's bones aren't fully developed. You should walk a puppy for atleast 20 minutes.
~
WRONG!! you misread the question!
You shouldn't walk your puppy until it's had it's 3rd injection at 4 months old. Then when the vet says it's ok, you can take him out for walks two or three times a day. Always have water on hand, just in case. Bring some treats along, too. Keep the walks 10- 15 mins when first starting out, then you can extend then to 30 mins at about 8 months, then up to an hour *after* your puppy is one year old. Most people who take their dogs out for an hour walk before the puppy is old enough, they will get tiredand have to stop. If tha does happen when walking, give the dog some water.
How fast can a border collie run in mph?
I put a Garmin 201 GPS on my 1 year old Collies harness and recorded peaks of 24.7 knots - just over 28 miles per hour. A fully grown dog 18 months + and slightly larger would be capable of 30 - 35mph in short bursts. Not a huge speed but collies are by far the most agile dogs - there are few that can achieve the same turn rate. johnwelch@ihug.co.nz

Turkeys do not make good pets. The males become combative when they mature. Not really. They are the ultimate "bird brain." Turkeys are so stupid that they have been known to look up during a rainstorm and drown themselves. Dogs make good pets because they are in the wolf family. Wolves are known for their "pack mentality", meaning that they will do whatever is necessary for the survival of the pack. If a dog (wolf) is adopted into YOUR pack (family), they will often demonstrate those same characteristics of loyalty. Those are the traits that make a good pet. Dogs are capable of comlex behaviors that can make them excellent pets. Turkeys, on the other hand, can make excellent processors of food, very efficently turning it into turkey fertilizer.
Can border collie mixes be smart like border collies when there puppies?
I've had 2 border collie crosses. Both have been very clever as pups.
My present collie cross was stopping at roads and waiting for the command to cross when she was only 4 months old. They also dont have the fixations that pure breds have.
Where can you get a Border Collie?
You can get a Border Collie from a reputable dog breeder if you want a puppy with a known pedigree and history or is interested in showing your dog. A breeder recommended by a friend or a relative is the best, as some breeders may sell unhealthy puppies.
You may also get a Border Collie from an animal shelter. Not only are you offering a new home to an animal (at a usually inexpensive price), but you can be sure that it is healthy. However, potential behaviour problems developed from the past may be unknown.
Acquiring a Border Collie from a friend or relative is also possible, and it is very unlikely that you will end up with a sick dog. However, the chances of getting a dog through this method are odd as most owners want to keep their dogs, few are interested in breeding their dogs and the people you know may not own a Border Collie.
It is also possible to get a Border Collie from a pet shop, yet this is highly notrecommended as many pet shops are known to sell puppies that are sick or have potential health problems. Many pet shop owners are ignorant about the puppies' health, as well as puppy mills, which is where most pet shop dogs come from. Many puppy mill owners are known to keep their dogs in small cages that were infrequently clean, leading to the spread of diseases as well as causing cruelty to animals.
No matter which way you acquired your dog, it is compulsory to take it to a reputable veterinary clinic for a check-up within three days after its arrival.
Are collies good hunting dogs?
In most cases, very much so, but each dog is different.
They are generally not afraid of guns, if they trust the owner.
But fire the gun, away from the dog the first couple times, to get it used to the sound.
Even untrained cocker spaniels, seem to automatically have the knack for hunting.
They will start by sniffing the ground, running back and forth in front of you, and yelp when they got game.
They will flush out the game, sometimes driving it to you, as they circle around in front.
Once you shot the prey, keep calling your dog to come, it should come with game in mouth.
If it does not come, go to the dead game, the dog will usually be excited even trying bit it.
It is important, to never let your cocker spaniel, eat on any animal as it is impossible to break the habit later.
Always praise your dog, for job well done, but I advice no treats while hunting.
In end it is you, that needs to learn how to hunt with a dog, as hunting comes natural to dogs.
last note, most cocker spaniels love water, and will retrieve floating prey, but they do get colder when wet.
