There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
A VIN or Vehicle Identifiaction number is different for every single car. The first 3 letters are the manufacturers world code. For Instance, Skoda is TMB and Land Rover SAL. Also, the last 6 digits are unique to the car that it is on and no other model and variation will have that combination of the last 6 digits. The other digits (numbers and letters) are different from car maker to car maker. They will consist of model (Mondeo, Vectra, A6); Variation (Mondeo Ghia, Vectra SRi, A6 Quattro); engine size and fuel.
It's below the cup holder, just off the floor. We had a hard time finding it, too!
It is located on the Right Hand side panel of the dashboard, on the end panel. You need to open the Passenger Side door. The weird looking thing that looks like a vent on the end panel is actually the handle to remove the panel. It comes off really hard. I recommend you insert a flat head screwdriver at a few points around the panel in order to release the metal retaining clips that hold the door on (you will need to poke around a bit to find them).
I have an Olds van and the doors sometimes act up. The doors not working properly seems to be a normal event for all vans. To this day, they still do not have all the bugs worked out. Have you disconnected the battery (change battery, repair on van, etc) or blew a fuse reciently? In most vans the doors have to be reset after such events for them to work properly. You can buy a repair manual from a parts store for the reset procedures.

It probably means your battery is low because your alternator is bad. Just a guess.
