Sponge cakes are generally dry and lacking in flavor. That said, after torting your layers you will need to moisten the cake with a flavored simple syrup, preferably using a flavor that compliments the filling. For example, coffee/espresso syrup for a chocolate genoise with a mocha or chocolate filling. If you're using a berry filling, flavor the simple syrup with liqueur or extract that compliments the berry. Personally, I will often times use a syrup lightly flavored with lemon peel.
After moistening your layers you have two options: Let it soak for a day and add more (optimal flavor) or you may continue to decorate with buttercream or a frosting of your choice. For a smooth exterior, frost the sides with an even amount of buttercream then the top and, using even pressure and a sweeping motion, remove the lip of frosting around the edges. If the frosting isn't smooth, simply place the frosted cake in the ice box for about 20 minutes then, using a spatula dipped in hot water + wiped dry, lightly run the spatula around and over the cake to smooth the frosting.

Hibiscus is non toxic, but it wilts very quickly after being picked if not in a water source. If it is going to be left any more than about 20 minutes, it will shrivel up. Hibiscus flowers are much more delicate than they appear. The petals are tissue thin.
Icing or frosting can be used to decorate a birthday cake.
Try using red and green as a colour theme. They are usual Christmas colours. Try looking in the library for ideas.
Hi Party Ideas here! I am adding onto this answer. Why not use a traditional Christmas theme like Candy Canes or Peppermints. Everything will look great in red and white! You can also use Presents as a decorating idea. Have lots brightly wrapped presents with ribbons and bows spread all over. Then of course there is ....Santa Claus and his reindeer. You can't get more traditional than that!
There are several methods of getting a rounded cake top.
First, you can use an additional egg white, and beat the egg whites until they are stiff (not dry) before folding them into the batter. Then bake at least half of the batter in a loaf pan. The top should rise up, forming a dome much like a treasure chest.
Another method, also using a loaf pan. Bake two layers in loaf pans. This time let's assume they do NOT rise up into nice round tops, but bake flat. Turn the layers out of the pans, then, when the cakes are completely cool, use a serrated bread knife to shape one layer into a rounded shape. Put the layers together with icing, then use plenty of icing to smooth out and further shape the top.
A third - and easiest - method is to bake part of the cake in a rounded pan. Coffee Cans are often used for this purpose. Grease the can well or line it with parchment or waxed paper. Bake part of the cake in the coffee can, then turn it out and cool it, then cut one side off for a flat base, leaving the rounded top.
Take out the little plastic pins inside the binder. Open up your magazine to the middle page and place it in the binder. Take a pin and push it through the first hole from underneath so it hold the pages. Do the same on the top.
