What part of the eye is similar to the camera?

The eyes as we know is that part of the body which helps us see. The phenomenon of the working of the eye is very similar to that of a camera. The human visual is system (HVS) is as complicated as the working of a camera.

Whatever we see, is the result of the message sent through the eyes to the brain. The brain interprets the signals sent from eyes to it hence allowing us to see what is in front of us. To understand a camera, human eyes should be understood first. It would be really fascinating to know the similarities and dissimilarities of both the processes.

  • Both the human eye and a camera use something called a lens. In fact, they both use the same type of lens - a converging lens or also known as a convex lens. Converging lenses are like the ones in magnifying glasses.
  • In the camera, the lens focuses the light onto a piece of film. The film has chemicals in it that basically trap the image on it, making it permanent. Instead of film, your eye uses something called a 'retina.' The retina has lots of little tiny things called 'rods' and 'cones' all over it. These are basically tiny antennae that tell your brain about the light that hits them. The rods tell your brain if there's light in a certain spot or not (a bit like a black and white photo) and the cones tell your brain what color the light is.
  • There is one spot on the retina, though, that has no antennae at all. This is the spot where the nerve leaves your eye to go to your brain. At this spot, you can't see anything at all - it's called your 'blind spot.' This is one of the reasons that you have two eyes; what you can't see with one eye you can see with the other. Unlike your eyes, cameras have no blind spot, so they only need to have one lens.
  • The individual components of the eye work in a manner similar to a camera. Each part plays a vital role in providing clear vision. So think of the eye as a camera with the cornea, behaving much like a lens cover. As the eye's main focusing element, the cornea takes widely diverging rays of light and bends them through the pupil, the dark, round opening in the center of the colored iris.
  • The iris and pupil act like the aperture of a camera.
  • The very back of the eye is lined with a layer called the retina which acts very much like the film of the camera.
  • Our eyes, very quickly adapt to the bright light, but in comparison, take a longer time to get adjusted to a dark environment. This is the reason we can't see anything when we enter a dark-room while when we move out of it, it takes very less time to adjust to the bright sun-shine. Though our irises may hurt a little in this process of adaptation to the bright light. But in case of a camera, a photographer has to do the task. The fuzziness of the view has to be removed by adjusting and modifying the light. This is automatically done by retina in case of human eye.
  • An interesting thing that I learned about pupils is that your pupil will also change size depending on what sort of mood you're in. But you sure can't tell the mood of a camera just by looking at it! Is it happy or is it sad? Hard to say.
SHUTTER SPEED

Vision is a continuous process of the human eye. But eye-lids act as shutters which creates a small time gap between two continuous visions. This small time gap is the shutter speed which is adjustable in case of camera but natural in case of human eye. According to researchers, an eye on an average has a shutter speed of around 1/50 of a second. Whereas, shutter-speed of a camera can vary from as less as 1/4000 of a second to as high as 2 seconds. Some cameras may even have an exposure time (shutter speed) of a few hours according to the need of the photographer.

APERTURE

Aperture of the eye or the lens decides the depth of field that is the area which remains in focus. The size of the hole of the aperture allows the required amount of light entering in the eye or the camera which results the focusing of a particular object of the whole view. The aperture of our eye is the black spot in the centre of the eye. It can vary from 1mm in the brightest light to 9mm at the night time. This is why this black spot shrinks when we move out in bright sun-shine and expands when we enter a dark-room.

How do you download pictures from the internal memory of a fuji camera?

Try by removing the memory stick and then attaching the camera to computer with USB cable. Switch on camera. It should open up a dialogue box in Windows XP (or similar OS). Select 'open folder to view file' or open Windows Explorer and open camera folder (probably displayed as new drive E: or like that in My Computer) . You may also check whether there is an option of selecting "camera as mass storage device" in settings menu of camera. If yes then select this before connecting. If you have no means of attaching the camera to the computer, place an empty memory stick into the camera. In review mode, a message indicates there is no data, but there is in the internal memory. While still in review mode, press the menu button and go the the "Setup" section, the last option. Now, scroll down to the "Memory Stick Tool" section. From there, highlight the "Copy" choice at the bottom, and select the OK option to proceed. You will get a message: "All data in internal memory will be copied." Press OK, and it will copy everything in the internal memory to your memory stick. Then, when you have plugged the memory stick into your computer, you will find a new folder entitled Copy. All your photos from the internal memory of the camera will be in there.

What is the best video surveillance system?

I really love Xeoma. I've been using it for a month or so and have no complains so far. Well, maybe, I only have to say it overloads the system at times. But I cannot say it disturbs me and hampers my work.

Before opting for Xeoma I've also tried Blue Iris. But I didn't like it that much. The GUI is not clear and ergonomic enough, in my opinion. Plus, some bugs which appeared after a few days of using a programm...

But even though, Blue Iris is a nice piece of software. But I've been told about Xeoma, I tried it and after the price comparison I decided to go for the latter.

Why was the polaroid camera invented?

Edwin Land invented the camera for his three year old daughter, Jennifer. In 1944 the Lands were on vacation in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Land took a picture of daughter Jennifer, who asked her dad why it was that she couldn't see the picture right away. Land went for a walk and when he returned he had all the central concepts for what became the Land Camera in his head. The folding camera Edwin Land invented produced black-and-white prints in about one minute from roll film inside the camera. Land patented his camera in 1946 (Patent Number 2435720). The first Land Camera, the Model 95, was sold in 1948 for $89.75 in Boston.

How many pictures can a 128 MB hold?

It depends on how may megapixels your camera is, which depends on the sizes of the images. Based on a pro camera, each image is 3mb, for example, before editing occurs. So in that case, this particular frame would hold 42 or so images without being downsized.

What do you need to transfer data from camera to computer?

It all depends on what type, make and recording medium your camera uses.

If it is tape and has an analogue output (AV leads) then you will need a computer with a video capture device added.

The card or dongle will have appropiate connections on it, for the AV leads. The devices also come bundled with the software to do it and instructions.

Some digtial cameras use a 'firewire' connection. But again your computer will have to be equipped with the correct socket. If it isn't already, then it can be added.

If you camera uses digital media, such as disc or memory card, then insert the media in the correct slot on your computer. Open the files and copy and paste them onto your hard drive.

What is the difference between 5 optical zoom and 8 optical zoom in a camera?

Can a analog video cassette recorder record from a digital television?

VCRs do NOT process digital signals, analgue is the only language they understand. Therefore, you need to place before the VCR a device that has a digital tuner plus the ability to convert digital signal to analogue.

Examples of such devices are a cable / satellite set-top box, a digital to analog converter box (the converter box ONLY works IF your digital TV feed is coming from an over-the-air TV antenna, not through underground cable), and a stand-alone DVD disk recorder "with a built-in digital tuner".

Whichever tuner plus converter device you have, connect either S-Video or Composite Video AND RCA (red and white) audio output of the device to the input sockets of your VCR. Make sure that whatever "types" of video and audio connections you make are available on both ends, as output on your tuner/converter device and input on your VCR.

What negative impact does the camera have on the world?

How does photographic film work?

Answer:Light is focused on to a light sensitive chemical deposited on a thin film. The light is allowed to strike the film surface for a short time by the use of a shutter. The shutter acts as a valve for the light. When light strikes the film, the light sensitive chemical undergoes a chemical change. The amount of light makes a proportional amount of change in the light sensitive material (within limits). Too much light can 'overexpose' the film, causing too much of the light sensitive 'grains' to change and not leaving enough of them unexposed to make a discernable image. After exposure, the film is chemically treated to 'develop' the image. The chemical treatment causes a permanent change in the light sensitive grains, and renders them insensitive to light. It also makes them visible.

The lens focuses the light on the film. The 'focal length' of the lens determines how large the focused image will appear on the film.

The shutter acts as a light valve. A longer exposure allows more light, and a shorter exposure allows less light.

The iris acts to reduce the amount of light, and it also affects the focus. This is called the 'field of focus'. A smaller aperture in the iris produces a larger field of focus, allowing object closer and farther away from the actual point of focus to appear sharper.

The camera's light meter measures the amount of light coming from the direction of the subject.

A computer in the camera can control the aperture, shutter, and lens focus to make the act of taking a picture completely automatic, needing little thought by the photographer. The photographer is free to concentrate on the subject.

Filters can be used to correct for differences in light source color balance, reflections off of objects, ultraviolet light, and create different artistic effects.
