betta are not harmful to people and most tropical fish. However, there are some very common fish that are poisonous. Most of the common plecos with spines can be toxic to tropical fish if they are dumb enough to peck at it. If you feel that another fish you own will get sick from being around your betta, odds are the two can live together happily and healthily. If another pet, like a cat or dog swallowed your betta, I wouldn't worry. I have never heard of pet poisoning from eating tropicals.

There are only 2 proposed humane ways of killing fish that I know of. One is to place the fish in a suitable container and place the container in a freezer. After freezing the fish can be disposed of (Garbage). The other is to slam/throw the fish down very hard onto a hard surface/floor. Then wrap and dispose of in the normal way. (Garbage) Do NOT under any circumstances release the fish into the environment or put them live into the toilet.

Special pelletised foods for Axolotls are available in good pet/aquarium shops. They do however appreciate live foods such as crickets, meal worms etc. now and then. They will also take trimmed lean raw meat cut into small enough sizes. Never leave uneaten meat in the tank with any living fish or axolotles etc. (I remove uneaten food after 15mins) It will poison the water very rapidly and kill the occupants if left in the water.
