How big are cliques on average?

It is a popularity contest. Maybe if someones "popular"and someone is a "nerd" or a "dork" that would be known as a clique. They can also change in size depending on a school. 2,000 kids with 4 grade levels can have easily 30 cliques of about 20- 100 kids. Though it is not as if they always hang out and know everyone in their clique. It depends upon whether you are discussing youth or adults. Some might argue that cliques are largely a youth issue; however, in adult society cliques continue to exists referred to something different such as social status, etc. Maybe, it just depends on how important we make them.

Are medieval castles made of wood?

Most of the castles built by the Normans during the 11th and early 12th centuries were built of earth (not wood). They forced local populations of Saxon peasants to dig the moats and pile up the clay, soil and gravel to make banks on the inner side. These ramparts were topped with wooden palisades and there was a central wooden tower on the main central mound (motte).

By the middle of the 12th century castles began to be replaced with structures entirely or mainly of stone. It was again local peasant workers who did almost all the manual labour on these stone castles.

When did Queen Victoria buy Windsor Castle?

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert made Windsor Castle their principal royal residence. Many of their changes were to the surrounding parklands rather than the buildings. In particular, the "Windsor Castle and Town Approaches Act", passed by Parliament in 1848, permitted the closing and re-routing of the old roads which previously ran through the park from Windsor to Datchet and Old Windsor. These changes allowed the Royal Family to undertake the enclosure of a large area of parkland to form the private "Home Park" with no public roads passing through it.
