Can you crush up clindamycin pill for your cat?

You need to call the veterinarian that prescribed the pills for your cat and ask him this question - he should be able to give you an answer over the phone. Without having the exact formulation of the clindamycin, there is no way for anyone on the internet to accurately answer that question without risking your cat's life.

What is the best way to train an adult cat?

The best way to train an adult cat is with operant conditioning. When you see your cat doing what you want it to do or see it doing something that is close to what you want to see it do, reward it with food. This is called positive reinforcement. When your cat does something you don't want it to do offer negative reinforcement (squirt it with a water pistol). After a while your cat's behavior will be molded to that which you want it to have.

Does male cats that has been fixed can he still go in heat and want to do the deed?

Only female cats go into heat, after they have been spayed the heat cycle stops.

I learned this just recently.......BUT....sometimes a spayed cat CAN GO INTO HEAT.

How??? Here's my story.

I found a three week old kitten and decided to adopt it. She was very tiny and thin and I nursed her back to health. We named her Meere Kat. At five months old, we decided to get her spayed. The vet called me after the surgery to let me know that the surgery took a little longer than a usual spay. The vet told me that Meere Kat did not have a fully developed uterus and could only find one ovary on the left side. The vet told me that it was important to do a little exploratory surgery to try to find all the reproductive tissues and see if there were any other abnormalities. During the exploratory surgery, it was also found that Meere Kat was missing a right kidney. The vet told me that it was probably a genetic problem and could have been the reason the mother cat abandoned her. Meere Kat came home and did take longer to come out of the anesthesia due to only having one kidney. The vet told me upon her 10 day checkup after the surgery that it was possible for her to come into heat. About 15 days after the spay, she went into heat. After researching, I found that it can happen shortly after the spay due to hormonal changes and not happen again; OR, it may continue to happen just like an UN-spayed cat.

So...I will wait and hopefully she won't go back into heat a second time. If she does, then I have two options:

1. Bring her back to have another exploratory surgery to (hopefully, but not guaranteed) to find the remaining reproductive tissues during her heat cycle. But this could be hard on her one and only kidney.

2. Keep her as she is....a very spoiled and special kitty.

Why do cats run away when you touch them?

actually some cats do, it depends on if you have trained them to do it. the cats that don't come either have not beed traind to come on call, or they are just to idapendant. (cats are a verry independent race, that is why they often wander off to be by themselfs.)

Where do most wild cats live?

Here are the names of some of them. I will refer you to your own further research for their respective stats. At this point, their is most likely not a single person on earth who can name all of the species of cat residing in all of the world's rainforests. Why? Because even now, new animal species are discovered yearly, if not daily. And we. as a species, have undoubtedly missed more than a few. And, undoubtedly, at least a few of these may be cats.

But I have a little list:

★ Jaguar

★ Ocelot

★ Jaguarundi

★ Margay

★ Oncilla

★ Rusty-spotted Cat

★ Iriomote Cat

★ Indian Leopard

★ Sri Lanka Leopard

★ Bornean Clouded Leopard

★ Bengal tiger

★ African Golden Cat

★ Asiatic Golden cat

★ Potentially, various ABCs or phantom cats. I leave the questioner to do further research.

Some are smaller, some are larger, all are interesting.

Is it safe for cats to eat chocolate mint?

My cat recently ate a mint stem and I wanted to know it could possibly hurt him. I found out that the ASPCA warns that peppermint plants and oils are dangerous for felines to ingest, as their stomachs aren't capable of digesting it properly. Consuming mint can lead to liver damage, nervous system problems, gastrointestinal malfunctions and other issues for cats. Although catnip is a member of the mint family, and its not rare for a cat to express interest in other types of mint, it's best to avoid exposing them to strong minty plants, oils, and essences. Inspite of this admonition by the ASPCA, my cat is doing fine after drinking quite a bit of water.

Why does your cat drink urine from the toilet?

Could be that there's a nutritional deficiency and the animal is trying to reabsorb the nutrients that are in it's waste. Some animals eat their faeces because of this, among other reasons.

Male cats have sensors in their mouths which pick up the chemical signals that indicate that a female is in oestrus, so that's one reason why a male cat might drink the urine of females.

It's probably harmless, not counting that the kidneys will probably become overworked having to refilter concentrated waste products and salts again. Take to a vet to be sure.

Why are fat cats lazy?

Because all cats have slower or faster metabolisms. The fatter the cat, the slower the metabolisms.

Sadly, the most common cause of obesity in cats is due to what the cat eats, and how much the cat eats. Obesity in cats is becoming a very common problem with around 50% of all pet cats being considered as overweight.

Many brands of dry and low quality wet food are packed with corns and grains. This is cheap carbohydrate filler that the food manufacturers use as its a cheaper source of protein than meat is. Cats are strict carnivores, so can only get their nutrients from meat-based protein, not plant-based protein. Grains, not only are completely indigestible, is one of the main causes of obesity, diabetes, food allergies and other health-related problems in cats. A cat will often overeat (especially if free-fed) to get all the nutrients it needs.

A cat's stomach cannot digest such complex carbohydrates, and most of the time it gets stored as fat, which will build up over months or years. Even prescription brands such as Royal Canin and Science Diet have a huge amount of grains and cereals in and not much meat-based protein.

Lastly, cats need exercise. Not only does frequent playing with your cat help exercise it mentally and physically, it also provides both pet and owner with happiness and strengthens the bond between pet and owner.

How many cats and dogs get along?

There is no exact number, but despite common stereotypes, many cats and dogs get along beautifully, I have seen them snuggle up together at night. When introducing a new cat/dog into a home with a cat/dog keep the new animal in a separate, closed off room for a few days until it adjusts to it's new environment. Then keep both animals on a leash, and let them meet. A vet told me if introducing a cat into a home with a dog, to put the dog in it's crate and let the cat walk around it.

Can one cat have male and female sex organs?

Yes, there are feline hermaphrodites. My cat is one. My cat has a small penis, but he also has an opening similar to a vagina. In male cats, there is space with fur between the uretha and the anus. Female cats don't have that much space, and it sort of looks like an upside down exclamation point. Three vets all examined my cat to determine its gender, and they all agreed that he just didn't have what he needed to have to be a boy, but he definitely had what appears to be a penis.

(None of this is easy to see. My cat howls when they poke and prod him to examine his genitalia.)

How soon after birth can a cat be wormed?

It usually only takes about 12 hours for worming tablets to work on cats. The actual time will depend on the medication and type of worms.

Why do cats drag clothes out from rooms?

Cats may drag clothes out from rooms for a variety of reasons, including seeking attention, playing, or trying to create a cozy spot to sleep. This behavior could also be a form of scent-marking or territorial behavior. Providing your cat with appropriate toys, scratching posts, and cozy bedding can help redirect this behavior.

Why cats don't like having a bath?

Some cats like water, but mostly cats dislike it: this is because the cats from which domestic cats evolved were originally desert animals and were not familiar with swimming, etc.
Not all cats hate water. In fact, some cats love water.

Notes that cat species native to hot areas seem to enjoy water, whereas cat species from cold areas aren't so fond of the wet stuff. Tigers, lions, jaguars, ocelots, and jaguarundi are all from hot savannas, and they enjoy taking dips in cool, refreshing streams and ponds whenever they get the chance.

Snow leopards, lynx, bobcats, and cougars live in cold environments and have little interest in getting wet. One veterinary professor suggests that water damages the ability of a cat's fur to insulate the animal against cold. This would explain why cold-weather cats don't like water -- it only makes them colder. But hot-weather cats don't have this problem.

Many domestic cats don't seem to enjoy water sports. Of course, they may not experience the extreme heat of the African plains, so they have no great impulse to take a dip. Also, no cats enjoy water used against them in an antagonistic manner or getting water in their eyes or ears. Being sprayed or squirted with water isn't fun, nor is being forced into a bath. Cats much prefer to meet new situations on their own terms.

Some housecats enjoy stepping into a shower or playing with a dripping faucet. The tolerance for water varies from cat to cat and may depend on the cat's previous experience. When people regularly enter their cats in cat shows, the cats must be bathed frequently, and those cats do get accustomed to the procedure. Show cats are often raised for the profession and get used to baths as kittens.

Cats are natural swimmers, and in the wild, a cat will swim to cross a stream or lake. Some Asian cat varieties enjoy fishing and regularly dive into water to catch a tasty meal.

The Turkish Van is a breed of domestic cat that loves the water. This cat is found near Lake Van in Turkey and has been a household pet in the area for centuries. Vans will even swim into the harbor to greet fishing boats!

Will your cat get sick after drinking water from the toilet bowl?

== == * Cats are at best a mystery and just like people they can have habits. Cats drinking from a toilet bowl (some dogs do this as well) is because the water is cold! Even though you may put fresh water down once a day doesn't mean the water remains cold. I change my cat's water twice a day with cold, bottle water out of a cooler. In order to get your cat to stop doing this, buy a clear glass round bowl (low enough for your cat to be able to drink from (5 - 6 " high) and put flat colored stones inside (I buy these at any craft shop like 'Michael's Crafts' (also in the U.S.) Then pick up your cat to show them, dip your finger in the water and put it on their lips. The colors fascinate them and they will then start drinking from the bowl. Change the water twice a day and place on a high area such as an old table, etc. Cats unlike dogs prefer to be on high places. Dogs drink from their dish on the floor, but cats prefer everything up higher. * You might want to try investing in a cat water filter fountain. Most cats LOVE running water. The water is filtered and as it pours out of the fountain, the bubbles it creates in the bottom keep oxygen flowing in the water. Also, like Marcy said, change your water every day no matter what. Here is an example of one: http://www.petco.com/product/8820/Drinkwell-Pet-Fountain-for-Cats.aspx

* You can also try and get the habit of putting the toilet cover down and closing the door to the bathroom and give the water bowl out where it's cooler (I leave it next to the kitchen ventilation - with A.C. running and stainless steel bowl, the water's usually kept cold. then I changed over to the drink well fountain. My cat loves it.

That is only fully true of domesticated animals. Wild animals can be taught new behavior, or "tricks", but their true instinct is always present.

How is a female cat spayed?

The cat is put under a general anesthetic and the fur around the scrotum removed, then the skin is disinfected prior to surgery. A small incision is made in the scrotum, the testicles are removed and the associated cords tied. The procedure may not even result in the cat requiring stitches as the incision is so small, and recovery time is minimal- cats can be allowed to go home on the same day.
