The 283 has a larger bore diameter, so use the 283 head gaskets.

Remove the distributor cap and rotor. Now looking down at the inside of the distributor at about 3 o'clock you will see an electrical part that has 2 small screws holding it in place. That part will have electrical connectors on each end of it. Unplug them and remove the 2 screws and left it out. After you replace it. You must set the timing on the engine with a timing light.

Remember this. When talking about a vehicle, left and right. Put yourself in the drivers seat looking foreward and then look where your left and right is.

The left bank will be the drivers side of the engine. Right bank is the passenger side of the engine.

pull the dust cover off the transmission and the converter bolts are easily accessable from there. there are three nuts and bolts that hold the converter to the fly wheel. probably 9/16 head bolts. turn the motor by hand until you see one.... tighten it and rotate motor again by hand until you see the next... tighten it and turn it to the third... tighten it and then reinstall dust cover

The thing that usually goes awry is that one cylinder gets worse than all the others. Do a compression test on all 8 and compare them.

It will probably run ok as long as the compression is within 10-15% of each other.

you have to take off the timing chain cover and replace the seal in the timing chain cover as welll youll need the oil pan seal

Generally, the 1986 and older are interchangeable and the 1987 and up are interchangeable, but not with each other.

The bore would be 4.310" and the stroke is 4.00"

NO the bore / cylinder size is different. Pluse the stroke

tried everything good parts all new good compression and leak down test.

Most 1987 models put out around 190 h.p.

1.72I/1.3E or 1.84I/1.5E. 1.72s usually came on the 267ci but could have come on some low hp 305s as well.

There were no 1.3 exhaust valves in these heads. Only came with 1.5.

Bad plug wire, or even bad plug it low voltage going to distributor

Also check to see if the valves are sealing properly.

The headers would be the same anyway, so you can order headers for the 83 and be all set.

Remove driveshaft, remove pinion nut, remove rear cover, remove axles, remove differential. Push pinion out through housing.
