Do Chevy Aveo cars have a lot of problems?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

yes they are junk I am an Aveo owner myself, and I have to disagree with this previous persons statement. I will honestly say, that for the first year and a half of ownership, I was at the dealership at least once every single month. This was very hard considering the fact that I was working 7 days a week and going to college full time. But, I can honestly say that if you can survive those first year and a half of ownership, they really are great cars. I have taken my car from California to Texas and back and did not have one issue. My car currently has over 125,000 miles on it, and all I have done is the regular maintenance. Oil Change, Air Filter, Wires, Plugs, Timing Belt, Cabin Air Filter, etc. As long as you take care of it, and understand that it is not a race car and can only go so fast, it is a good car. It doesn't have the looks, but this Daewoo (Chevy) has got it where it counts.

What is the Chevy Aveo's combined EPA MPG?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Don't believe whatever the sticker and advertising says for the 2006. I am a conservative driver who regularly got 38 mpg with a Saturn SL1. My 2006 Aveo has NEVER gotten better that 28 highway. Very disappointed because my commute costs went up considerably when I bought this car,

Cannot check fluid level. Factory filled and sealed with a preset amount. If there are no leaks, do not worry. If it leaks, after necessary repairs, drain and refill with correct amount.

Where is the coolant sensor loacated on a 05 Chevy aveo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Its nextto the alternator but on the BACK side of the engine and underneath the intake manifold. The radiator hose is by it as well.Easier to acces from the bottom of the car jacked up. Its a pain to get to so if you replace it get the OEM one due to its inconvience. I like cheap parts from Auto Zone but not on this part.

In small circles this sensor is known as the "Master Sensor" which controls everything so go OEM on this one. The real trick is undoing the faster on the electrical connector without breaking it. I ended up removing the intake brace. This was a PAIN!

How you install a thermostat on a Chevy aveo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

For tools You will need a ratchet with a 12mm socket and a short extension, a pair of channel locks or pliers, a flat screw driver, and a pan to catch the radiator fluid.

For parts you will need a thermostat housing ($85.00 at the dealer, abour $55.00 plus shipping on line. and a new gasket (this is an o-ring, and a great inprovement over the paper gasket and sealer that I am used to dealing with). and a little 50-50 antifreeze mixture to replace what will be lost.

This should only take about 15 minutes for the average Joe.

At the top of the radiator on the passenger side you will see a short radiator hose connecting the radiator to the thermostat housing. If this is the first time that the thermostat has been changed the housing will be plastic. The replacement will be cast aluminum (The plastic ones have been known to break).

You can drain some fluid from the system through the plug located under the bottom radiator hose. Or just catch it as best you can when you remove the radiator hose.

Remove the radiator hose by using the channel locks or pliers to expand the clamps and move the past the hose beads on the radiator connection and the thermostat housing. the hoses might be stuck to the plastic connections so carefully use the screwdriver to free the hosees. There will be a small bypass hose connected to the thermostat housing. this will be easier to remove after the housing is free from the engine.

The thermostat housing is held in place by two bolts. you will need the 12mm socket to remove them. The one at the top is visable and easy to reach. The second one is on the opposite side and not visible but easialy reached with the short extension.

Free the thermostat housing from the engine and remove the snall bypass hose in the same manner that the radiator hoses were removed.

The thermostate in part of the housing and to my knowlege not replceable.

Be sure that the old o ring is removed before installing the new o-ring and housing.

Reassemble in reverse order and your done. Don't forget to top off the antifreeze.

Why won't the aveo shift into overdrive?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I replaced the engine in my 2004 Chevy aveo after the timing belt destroyed my old engine. After I spent 2000$ to replace the engine, the check engine light started to flash (indicating engine missfire), it would not shift into overdrive, and after having the codes read (tranny and missfire codes) my mechanic spent a month trying different things to fix the problem. After doing a ton of research I figured out that anytime you replace an engine in a Chevy aveo, you must take it to a dealership to have a crank shaft variation (or re-learn) procedure done. Now, my mechanic told me he had done the procedure several times and he knew that was not the issue, so before I let him take it to the transmission shop to waste time, I decided to take it to the dealership to have have the procedure done. After 150$ more, the re-learn procedure worked, and I talked my mechanic into splitting the bill with me because we both knew so much time had been and would of been wasted if I wouldnt of figured it out myself. So please, anyone who is having the same problem I promise it's because the procedure must be done once the engine is replaced. It took the dealership several times to get my car to re-learn to shift, but it worked!

Can you add air conditioning to a Chevy Aveo that didn't come with it?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, for about $1000 it can be done at a lower cost than other cars because the inlet tubes into the passenger car are already there and hooked up to the evaporator (the thing that makes it cold). So all they have to do is put in the compressor, condenser, accumulator dryer and the high and low pressure switches.

How do you change fog light bulbs in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I've changed my fog light bulbs on my 1998 Grand Prix GT at least 2 times. First of all, there were two types of bulbs at the Trak Auto or Pep Boy's store where I purchased the replacement bulbs. Spend the few extra bucks and get the long-life version or you'll be replacing them again within a few months. I think the lower grand ones can't handle the normal road shock. To replace the bulbs, you need to lay on the ground under the front bumper and reach up around behind the fog light assembly and turn the bulb socket connector a quarter turn and then remove the bulb socket connector from the fog light housing. Replace the bulb using a soft cloth. I try not to touch the new bulb with my fingers if possible. Insert the bulb connector socket into the fog light housing and turn a quarter turn in the opposite direction as it was removed.

Where is the map sensor on your 2005 aveo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Top of the engine dead center towards the back, It has a 3 wire connector, and a vacumb hose attached that runs across the front of the manifold to the intake. See the picture on napa site. it bolts to the intake. Looks like it will be easy to change. mine is puting the check engine lite on with a P0106 OBDII code. I think I will change the hose going to it first it looks like it has some cracks in it.

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=CRB&PartNumber=220322&Description=Manifold+Absolute+Pressure+(MAP)+Sensor

Norm

Also, you need to check out the hose that runs from the MAP sensor to the air intake. It is a small line in the center top of the engine with rubber hose line of about 2.5" in each end. Check these for brakes or cracks. Mine was cracked on the backs side so you need to pull them of to check it. It cost me $1.05 for one foot of hose and now my Aveo has 94000 miles and runs great.
