It's very important to use good oil and keep it clean. With good maintenance an engine can go more than 400,000 miles without touching the heads. Unfortunately, your problem is probably not the sending unit. But just to be certain, connect an oil pressure gauge and see what it says. If the oil pressure drops after the oil warms up, it's bearings.
