Cnidarians are jellyfish. They have a very simple body structure and nervous system, but some species, including the box jellyfish and the Irukandji, produce toxin that has been lethal to humans.

When looking at the Algerian Sea coral it first appears to be a pink-orange hue. Although stunning, many do not know its actually a combination of three colours. When the colours red, orange, and pink are combined together the coral colour is then created.

Jellyfish are, compared to mollusks, arthropods and vertebrates, very simple organisms. Jellyfish did not evolve a respiratory or an excretory system, as they can perform gas exchange at their outer surfaces.

It is called the mesoglea, or the middle layer between the outer ectodermal tissue and the inner gastrodermal tissue. Jellyfish are considered diploblastic, or two tissued. A secretional, gelatinous substance makes up the mesoglea and it provides the jellyfish with several benefits. Since it is less dense than the cellular parts of the organism, it allows the jellyfish to have neutral buoyancy. It also gives the bell some rigidity, and the ability to spring back after muscular contractions.

In addition to envenomating prey, cnidarians use their tentacles to bring their food towards their oral cavity and to provide defense against predators. Sessile cnidarians can also use their tentacles for locomotion, using sticky nematocysts for adhering to the substrate and then pulling themselves along a surface by retraction of those tentacles.

Certain box jellyfish species (notably, Carybdea sivickisi) use their tentacles during courtship behavior- the males use them to hold onto a mate, and the females use them to ingest the presented sperm package (spermatophore) into their cavities in proximity to their eggs.

Some small jellies also use their tentacles to hold onto eel grass for reasons that are yet to be fully understood, but probably are related to camouflage.
