I know that Alpharma and Actavis are supposed to be the strongest of the cough syrups and that Acatavis bought out Alpharma and recently discontinued their Promethazine with Codeine syrup, but why are they the strongest? Why exactly are they the best if all of the different brands of cough syrup contain the same amount of promethazine and codeine as the next. If someone could elaborate on this, it'd be a great help. Thanks!

I've researched this before and I can find no indication that Phenrgan (promethazine) elixir is made with alcohol anymore. So no. Alcohol used to be used a lot in elixirs and liquid suspensions but, for obvious reasons, this has ceased in recent years. But to be certain, ask your pharmacist -- they're certain to know. ... I just checked with my pharmacist and she informed me that it contains 9 percent alcohol.

Codiene is an opiate so unfortunately it registers as just that. Codeine is a precursor of morpheine and after it metabolises it changes to morpheine. So unless your test can distinguish somehow which drug you have taken, its anyones guess whether you were shooting heroin or taking cold and flu pills.

your asking if an opiate is safer than weed? Codeine is a painkiller, it is possible to overdose on it. You can't die from weed. Also, codeine is physically addictive, weed is not.

Good question. I have never had a positive test after 5 days, and only once after 4 days (and that was a bit suspect). It depends on how much you have been taking and also your own metabolism. If you are still constipated (not loose stools), it may still be detected at 5 days but its unlikely.

How long a few codeine tablets stay in the system depends on the individual. If one is going for a drug test, if it is a hair test it can be a couple of months. It can be detected in a urine test for up to four days.

The most commonly prescribed dose of Codeine is: 45 mg. It is referred to as a T-3. They come in 4 strengths. T-1= 15 mg, T-2= 30 mg, T-4= 60 mg. Pure codeine base is not very soluble in water, and has a short shelf life.

When codeine base is mixed with a dilute strong acid, such as Sulfuric Acid, it forms a salt: Codeine sulfate. This salted version is more water soluble and has a longer shelf life.

Most medicines are salted in this manner.

it's not too bad but it could be worse! i'd say if you've been doing this for a while then you will prob be addicted to having them every day. The best thing would be to cut down slowly as it's better on your body. you will have to come down off them eventually so why not now? you've got nothing to lose! lots of us have been there so goodluck! :)

Because, when paired together, promethazine is an opiate potenciater. many people get sleepy taking promethazine by itself.... When they're mixed, it makes the opiate if choice even stronger; hence the reason it is matched with codeine in "lean," or "drank."
