What is an 8 bit word?

In "computer speak" a word is a specific amount of storage. The exact size of a word varies from machine to machine, however. If you read that your system has an 8-bit word, then it means that any time you see "word" you can think of 8 bits (and if you see "double word" or "quad word" you can think 16 bits or 32 bits, respectively).

What allows the components of the computer to communicate with each other?

Motherboard or some times refereed as a Main Board. The components are often connect to conections called the Bus and from there toe communication is controlled by the IEEE

Who invented USB port?

USB was created by a core group of companies that consisted of Compaq, Digital, IBM, Intel, Northern Telecom, and Microsoft. Intel produced the UHCI host controller and open software stack; Microsoft produced a USB software stack for Windows and co-authored the OHCI host controller specification with National Semiconductor and Compaq; Philips produced early USB-Audio; and TI produced the most widely used hub chips. One of the co-inventors of USB was Ajay Bhatt, who was later given credit in an Intel television advertisement, though this overstates Intel's role in the development of USB. Compaq and Microsoft played roles equal to Intel, and Microsoft in particular focused on improving the user experience and enabling hot Plug and Play of devices.

The USB 2.0 specification was released in April 2000 and was standardized by the USB-IF at the end of 2001.

Disadvantages of a hard disk?

There are many disadvantages of magnetic tape.

1. Mag tape is in physical contact with the recording heads, causing friction and wear.

2. Magnetic tape is an analog medium, even when digital data is being stored.

3. Tape can stretch or break, or lose its magnetic data due to age, heat or the Earth's magnetic field.

What is a Output device that lets you hear sound?

Can you get around a bios password?

1) Remove the BIOS battery to completely reset to default configuration, including no password for BIOS. Wait for a few seconds, reinstall the battery and then reboot. In some motherboards the CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. Others use flash memory. In this case we will use another method.

Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet, before removing the BIOS Battery, and before moving jumpers!

2) Using the Motherboard Jumper:

Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location.

If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer's label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.

When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. Remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again return the jumper to the previous position.

3) Using Software:

I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is most effective. This is a program that works instantly to remove a lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. If you can boot your PC to DOS then execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just seconds.

What does 'form factor' mean?

Form factors are usually the configuration, size and physical arrangement of computer hardware in computers. If one is referring to electric motors, then form factor is known as the amount of rectified current based on a direct current.

Difference between soft copy output and hard copy output?

Can you connect two computers by using straight cable?

Where can you download Windows XP drivers for a Compaq Presario CQ70-211EM laptop?

Is a magnetic tape drive input output or storage?

A disk drive is all three, depending on the situation. It is an input device when it provides stored data to an application. It is an output device when it receives data from an application. It is a storage system when it saves the data for future use.

. Suppose that you are responsible for computerizing a gourmet restaurant's order-entry system. What types of input device do you think would work best for waiters to input order to the kitchen?

I think a computer that had buttons which will send it to the chef instead of a waiter would be nice! Also, the waiter will become the teller and tell the chef what to cook based on the button! Does that sound nice?

Is 1gb bigger than 128mb?

Yes. 1 Gigabyte (GB) has 1,000,000 bytes, whereas 128 Megabytes (MB) has only 128,000 bytes. Therefore, 1 GB memory card is bigger than 128MB card.

What is the minimum number of computers required for a network?

There must be at least 2 computers to form a network. However, a standalone machine that is connected to the Internet (which is itself a vast network of computers) is considered part of that network and is therefore regarded as a subnet even though there's only one machine in that subnet.

What cache typically has the most memory?

Caches are generally defined as L1, L2, and L3. If a CPU has any cache memory at all, it will have at least L1 cache. L1 cache is the fastest, and most expensive, type of cache memory. Usually CPUs will only have a very small amount of L1. L2 is typically larger, less expensive, and slower than L1. L3 is less expensive, larger, and slower than L1 or L2, if present. All three levels of cache memory are magnitudes faster than system memory. Systems withequivalenthardware, including CPUs will identical speeds, will perform better at certain tasks when more cache memory is present, with L1 cache adding the most performance boost.

How can a power supply be repaired?

A computer's (PC's) power supply is a sealed unit and should be replaced as a whole - It is dangerous to try and repair the inside of that sealed unit (that is why it is sealed).
