2. Make sure all drivers are updated and that your printer is compatible with your brand of computer.

Press Start Black to send a black-and-white fax.

To send a fax from your computer with an OFFICE HERO 6.1, HERO 2.2, 4.2 or 9.1 All-in-One Printer:

WINDOWS OS:

Open the document you want to fax, then select File > Print.

In the print dialog box, make sure that your printer Fax Driver is selected (for example, [printer name] Fax Driver], then click Properties or Preferences.

Select a paper size (letter or A4) from the drop-down menu, then select a resolution and orientation as needed.

Enter the fax number in the Enter Fax Number field, then click OK.

Click OK to send the fax.

MAC OS:

Open the document you want to fax, then select File > Print.

Select a paper size (letter or A4) from the drop-down menu, then select an orientation as needed.

Check the Send as Fax check box, then enter the fax number in the To field.

Select a fax quality (Standard or Best).

To receive a fax:

Load plain paper into the printer.

Press Auto Answer to receive incoming faxes.

NOTE: If the Auto Answer LED is illuminated, the printer automatically receives incoming faxes.

I thought I would post this question for anyone having the same problem, I know what a pain it must be. I believe that this will fix all the All-in-one printers.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold OK and HELP buttons while plugging in the power cord

This helped me and I hope it also helps you.

Edited to add: This also helped me. I was nervous trying it because it's not cited at all (and hence is why I'm adding this - hoping to add a little more credence to the advice for anyone else wandering hopelessly out there about this question! :) ). My printer was an HP 309c, however. On that printer this procedure triggers a sort of reinitialization, if I was reading the screen right. It takes several minutes to finish, but walks the user right through it.
