What isdouble knitting wool equal to is it the same as chunky yarn?

Yarns are very variable, but in the US this is often called worsted weight. Personally I find DK tends to go further than a worsted weight yarn. I always check with a yarn swatch when using DK for a US pattern, as I often have to use a different hook size.

How do you stitch in the ditch?

I'll try to explain what I saw in a video on YouTube that I stupidly didn't save. Start with your yarn underneath the seam. With your hook, go into and under your first hole in the seam and bring up a loop. With that loop on your hook, yarn over, go into the next hole and bring up another loop. Yarn over and go through both loops on your hook. You should have what looks like a chain stitch on top of the work, centered on the seam. Repeat all the way across and secure your ends as usual.

How do you tell whether you have been doing knitting or purl when you start in the middle of the row?

follow the pattern and knit the amount of stitches stated, then turn your needles and knitting completely around so the side that was facing you is now facing away from you carry your wool over the needles to the other side of your work as you do it, you are now about to knit across the stitches you have just knitted..........it makes one side longer than the other

What is ribbed jacquard double knit fabric?

The Jacquard process and the necessary loom attachment are named after their inventor, Joseph Marie Jacquard (1752-1834). This mechanism is probably one of the most important weaving inventions as Jacquard shedding made possible the automatic production of unlimited varieties of pattern weaving. The term "Jacquard" is not specific or limited to any particular loom, but rather refers to the added control mechanism that automates the patterning.

The "wrong side" in knitting is the side that doesn't show the pattern. The wrong side is the one that goes inside toward your skin in the making of a garment. So if you are making a garment, look to the side that has the pattern clearly, this will be the "right side".

What does a double asterick mean in knitting?

Asterisks indicate a section of the instructions that will be repeated. For example, with the instruction below:

K2, *P1, K1* repeat 2 times, P1, K2

K2, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K2 (the bolded stitches are the ones from inside the asterisks)

What is the difference between knitting and crochet?

Both techniques differ in the tool used. Knitting uses needles which hold "rows" of live stitches, whereas traditional crochet uses a single hook for the one live stitch.

The resulting fabric is different in weight and overall appearance. Crochet fabric is thicker and stronger than knitted fabric, even using the same yarn and same size hook/needles. The difference comes from the fact that even the simplest crochet stitch is made of 2 loops, wrapped around one or two strands of yarn, and knitted stitches are a single loop in a single previous loop (single strand of yarn).

Are 2 strands of double knitting equal to 1 of chunky?

Usually yes. The best way to test it is to take a ruler and wrap the two strands together around the ruler continuously for one inch length (make sure the yard does not overlap, nor leave gaps). Then take a strand of chunky yarn and do the same. You should get the same number of rotations around the ruler for each.

You may also want to note that using two yarns together of different colors will give you a nice heathered effect in the finished product.

What does Knit into front and back of each stitch mean?

you are basically doing an increase, creating two new stitches from one old one.

Start your knit stitch by inserting your needle right to left and out the front of the stitch, wrap your yarn and bring your right needle back out with the new stitch on it, but don't drop the stitch on the left needle yet. now insert the right needle into the back of the stitch from left to right, wrap the yarn and now you may drop the stitch from the left needle.

What is the average weight of a skein of acylic yarn?

if you mean a basic knitting worsted weight for afghans normally in yarn shops they are 100 grams skeins which is 3 1/2 ounces.. if you mean in knitting stores the smaller skeins for children's and adult fine garments they are 50 grams 1 3/4 ounces .. years ago they used to be 4 ounces and 2 ounces , but like the coffee cans they shrunk .. in craft stores the large skeins can be 200 grams or even more .. but craft yarn is exactly what it says CRAFT not for garments .. unless it states it is for afghans or sweaters etc .. so be careful of craft store yarns and make sure if you buy there that you buy for the right purpose

Can you knit a 4ply pattern with dk yarn?

If you want your project to be the same size as the directions say, then you need to use the same weight (or thickness) of yarn (rather than number of plies). Sometimes you can get the same gauge by using a bigger or smaller hook, but that doesn't always work.

How much yarn in a hank?

Unfortunately, there are no standards for amounts of yarn, which can come in various forms: balls; skeins; hanks; cones are terms which come to my mind quickly.

I would say that in my mind, a ball would have less yarn than a skein, which would have less yarn than a hank, and what would generally have the most yardage, would be a cone00but those are MY distinctions, based upon absolutely NOTHING, just how I use the words, unless I am referring to a specific form of a particular yarn.

So, for you to find out how much yarn is in a hank, you would have to look at the specific brand of yarn, and read (on the "ball band," the paper band which encircles the hank, or the tag attached to the hank of yarn), and read the actual yardage of that particular yarn hank.

Also, be aware that just because Company A had 350 yards of yarn for one variation of their yarn, that all hanks would have 350 yards--it not necessarily true. The other variations could have any amount of yarn in a hank.

Therefore, you would need to read the ball band, or tag on the hank to get the amount of yarn in that particular hank, or you could go to the manufacturers website and see if they list how many yards are in the hank.

By the way, there are brands, and yarns that are sold that only give the amount in that form of yarn in ounces--no yardage given! Now, that can be fun to convert into approximate yardage!
