Why does computer shutdown when you put a blank disk into rewriter CD or DVD?

This shouldn't be happening in normal circumstances, as there is nothing to correlate the operations of the PC based upon the CD drive being opened or closed. I've tried to replicate this symptom on my machine at home and am unable to do so.

What happens if you insert a pre-written CD (a music CD for instance) instead? If the "rewriter" were an external part of the PC, there could be some "handshake" issues in the manner of operation, but nothing comes to mind about why the machine would simply shut off just from inserting a disk.

hi if i put any other pre-written CD/ DVD in it plays ok its only when i put a blank disc in CD or DVD , so i can burn a file to disc , it shuts down, if i leave the disc in and try to reboot as soon as the curser comes on, it shuts down, i have to take the disc out to reboot. thank you a w howard.

Data will loss if you put CD or floppy near to a magnet. why?

First of all, don't worry about your CDs or DVDs near magnets. These use "optical" storage techniques, which are not affected by magnets.

"Magnetic" storage - floppy disks, credit cards, hard disk drives - store information by using patterns of magnetization. Basically, they take the information you want to store, and write it onto a special magnetized material. Since this material stores data in the form of magnetization, putting it near a magnet will cause a change in the stored information.

How can you erase data from a jaz disk?

It depends on how badly you want the data erased and whether or not you want to reuse the disk.

Your Operating System has a command that will "delete" files, but they will still exist on the disk in a recoverable form. The command might be "rm" or "del", depending on what OS you are using.

You can also use "secure delete" utilities like BestCrypt's bcwipe or eraser, which will overrite the data many times. Search the internet for "Gutman" and "secure delete" for more products.

If you REALLY want the data GONE, a blowtorch is very reliable. So is a hammer. Especially if you dispose of the resulting pieces in different dumpsters.

Good luck.
