How many inning were in games in the 1920s?
It depends what part of the 1800's you want to know about. Early baseball was simply a modified game of cricket which used four bases. The "New York Game" was one of the earliest forms of modern baseball. In the "New York Game" A complete "inning" where all nine players had batted was called a "hand", exactly as in early cricket. Batting rotated between the opposite sides on every out. For the New York Game, the winner was the first team to score 21 runs. So there were no set innings of play. Just the first team to get to 21 won the game. Later in the 1800's different versions of the game came about, and was renamed "townball", "base", or as we know it now as "Base-ball". After this form of the game was invented there came the first professional baseball league in 1871, the NAPBP (The National Association of Professional Base-ball Players). At this time the game was revised to 9 innings with three outs per team, and has not changed much since 1871.

What did Bessie smith help to prove to the record companies in the 1920s how did she do it?
Don't quite know what you mean by your question. She wasn't out to prove anything. Bessie was already a big name star before she even began recording. And the fees she received from recording were very nominal. She made her money from touring. She had nothing to prove to Columbia. Columbia just wanted to cash in on her popularity. Now, recording for Columbia helped increase her ticket sales for her touring shows most definitely. But she was not paid royalties for her recordings. Just a flat rate fee.
How did she do it? By being the best. Her voice was phenomenal and she was a very good show biz person. She traveled with a large show that had other acts besides her and comedy skits and dance numbers. She put on a good show and the world got around that Bessie was really good.
She only recorded for Columbia expect at the very end she recorded for Okeh.

How did automobiles change the standard of living during the 1920?
Before the invention of the car the city center was the only shopping and entertainment centers. The nice homes were on the edges of the city center and everyone was in walking distance to what they needed. Many store owners lived over their shop, business, or store. It was all centralized. After the car people could move away from the city center, buy houses further away, and shop away from the downtown sections. As people moved urbanization began and people could buy land further and further out of town. They were to become the future subdivisions and malls. Not only could people move but they could see other places and things. This made them view the world in new ways and have new experiences. In the 1950's the federal freeway system was begun which added to the ability for people and products to move at a faster pace. Combined with this was the introduction of the TV to the American household. Windows to the world were opened and now people could view other places and people from their living room. The car could take them to see some of these places as well. Factories were built away from the town and the people living in the new suburbs could get to work on the new freeway without the worry of the bus or train schedules. This created a better standard of living for all as more factories were needed for the new products and more trucks were used for shipping those products to stores. More people were able to get work to work in the factories, haul the goods, and work in the stores or to build the houses and malls. So, it continued until the last few years when many factories closed down so they could be moved overseas and put people out of work. The ripple of what we see today in work and business began and continues. Just think it all began with the car.
