Isolationism. The Fordney and McCumber tariffs of the 20's boosted American economy, and prevented foreign goods being popular because of high tax rates. However during the war FDR collaborated with British allies, under policies such as lend lease and the cash and carry system which supplied British allies with artillery, ammunition and loans. This could question the extremeness of the isolationist policy, which inevitably ended in 1941 when the USA joined the war.

The most popular transport in 1930's was the train. The train took people to the farest of places. Also evacuated children to safer places and was quicker and easier. In addition to taking children they also took people to work and back from work, that's if they had jobs.

The Salinas valley back in 1930 was very poor and had no money are food the had to work for their living. The people worked in ranches and even in factories. They were so poor they wore the same clothes.

It was because of the great depression, which meant the stock market crash. Of course the stock market crashing would cause the money to drop in its worth for example if you had £1000 it would drop down to £10 (just an example). People had money stored in banks, so the bank would owe the people lots of money but the money would be worth less so they would need more money to repay the people, but in fact they didn't have enough, in turn this caused the banks to crash.
