They are considered both. Skymiles are needed as a frequent flyer program to attract business. Customers who accumulate a large amount of Skymiles have a chance of upgrades. This promotes the airline and keeps up with competition. The Skyclub is a relatively quite area with meeting rooms and bars and WiFi so that business can be attracted. It is thus used as a promotional tool but it is also a product in its own right and appears on the P/L balance sheet.

After a power outage in Atlanta on August 8th, 2016 at 2:30 am, Delta's entire computer system was temporarily down, and even though they started resuming flights just after 8:30, it takes a long time to get the whole system up and running again after that long of a delay. So, flights continued to be cancelled that day (about 1,000) and the next day (about 530), and likely will continue while they try to catch up. They are providing vouchers for people whose flights are cancelled or delayed more than 3 hours.

It also depends on whether you are a medallion or flying in a premium cabin. Delta American Express Cards do not get you a 2nd bag on international flights. Residual income for DVD sales was a major sticking point in the negotiations. It was decided back in 1988 that writers would get .3% - .36% of all revenue generated from home video sales. When this decision was made, VHS tapes were just beginning to gain traction and only comprised a small percentage of profits generated by Hollywood.
