Demerol

i am a student and have just been assigned a 92 year old patient with an allergy to demerol and morphine. What would be safe for pain ?

Don't do it. This is what has killed any number of celebrities in the past few years. If you MUST drink and take drugs, please at least make sure that your will is up to date, because your heirs will need it.

Meperidine is Demerol, similar to morphine. The question I think you are meaning to ask is, what is Mepergan Fortis. This medicine is a mixture of Demerol & Phenergan. Lovely drug for when you are hurt and need sleep.

Demerol is a terrible drug for pain management as is rarely used anymore. Demerol has more toxic metabolites that are released as the body breaks it down, which increases the intensity and duration of some very serious side effects. In addition, Demerol has what is called a "ceiling" to it's dosage, meaning you can give more and more and more Demerol, but at some time, you will hit a ceiling where it no longer increases in effectiveness of pain relief. Giving higher doses simply means more severe side effects. Morphine does not have a ceiling and is considered a "cleaner" drugs in reference it's metabolites. In consideration of addictive effects, anyone who takes opiods for the purpose of relieving pain will become physically dependent on it, but not psychologically addicted. Addiction is a term used for those who take opiods for recreational means.

Maca is a natural herb that grows naturally. You can give your children maca, but you need to check with your doctor to make sure they are not allergic.

Demerol will show up as an opiate but only if they do an extended opiate test. The only opiate that will show up in hair follicle is morphine or codiene unless the extended test is requested.

I think you'd be better off taking ibuprofen than Tylenol with Demerol, since Demerol is a combined drug that contains acetaminophen already. You should be careful of overdosing, or at the very least call your doctor to find out what a safe dose would be.

The proper Demerol dosage for a child having dental work is NONE. Any clinician considering administering Demerol to a child for dentistry should really find a new profession, one which does not involve treating people.

Usually drug tests only test for the metabolite of opiates in your urine. So yes oxycodone will show up in a urine based drug test. Demerol being fully synthetic on the other hand may not.
