I would avoid the intake of sugar, post-surgery. Sugar can promote bleeding. We're talking some 24 to 72 hours, post-surgery. My periodontic practioner recommeneded "biting down on luke-warm tea bags, instead of gauze" -- because warm tea bags contain tanic acid which helps heal the gum.
Regards and let us know how you're doing: Jim

Why is there bone where my wisdom teeth used to be?
Third molars, especially in the mandible (lower jaw) are often found in states of impaction, therefore often necessitating bone removal by the oral or maxillofacial surgeon during extraction. The bone you are feeling is either the mandible (lower jaw) or the maxillary bone (upper jaw). This is found to be normal, however should you develop pain or bleeding in or around that extraction site, you should contact your dental health professional immediately, as increased bleeding after the first 24-48 hours may be a sign of a dry socket (blood clot dislodged or that failed to form).
Explain why wisdom teeth are vestigial structures?
Your wisdom teeth are flat and are used for grinding. Evolutionists believe that our ancestors used them to grind and eat hard grains and seeds. Since modern mankind mainly eat vegetables and meats and often cook their foods, it is thought that they have receeded as they are not needed anymore. Evolution would thus dictate that they will eventually be lost altogether. Obviously there is disagreement on this topic depending on you beliefs.
I should add that it is not the wisdom teeth as such that is the victim of evolution. Since there has been a marked change in our dietary habits our jaws themselves became smaller, but somehow the evolutionary selection process forgot, that smaller jaws need lesser number of teeth.! The result is what we have today, smaller jaws and more teeth. So the last four teeth in each quadrant ( the third molars) have a difficult time wriggling out. It is true that we really don't need them for chewing. We may lose them all together in another million years.
Can you smoke after having wisdom teeth cut out?

Is a Dentist in New York State required to have malpractice insurance?
There is no legal requirement in Oregon that says that dentists must have insurance but, as my source at the Oregon Board of Dentistry says, "it would be pretty unwise to not." I'm told that the Oregon Insurance Commission may help you find out whether or not a dentist is covered, and by which insurance company. Meanwhile, sometimes the dentist will tell you whether or not they're covered by malpractice insurance. If they don't, and there's a dispute, "then that's when you might have to get an attorney involved," says the source - or file in small claims court.

How are deeper abscesses treated?
Written by a 9 year old-To get rid of an abscess you can go to a dentist and get a prescription for antibiotics , then when the abscess has gone you'll probably get your tooth pulled out. To get rid of the pain of an abscess you need to put heat on it so maybe try a whee tie or a hot water bottle. If you have read other paragraphs saying you have a chance that you can die, don't listen to it, you can only die from an abscess that is covering your nose and mouth which is probably not possible. So don't worry, you will NOT die. If you put cold on an abscess like frozen food or things like that you will go numb then in like 10 minutes the numbness will wear off and you will sting like mad and it will bleed! Don't use cold , use heat. Thank-you for reading and if it helped you with an abscess, just remember you got advice from a nine year old who has had 3 abscesses, thankyou:)
