What can you do if your parents won't take you to seek help for depression and self harming behavior?

if i was in your position (which i practically am because i have depression and im a self harmer) i would do something that would make your parents rush you to the emergency room.. for example you could:

overdose on any medication

slit your wrist

jump off of a building

knock yourself out (bang your head repeatedly as hard as youcan against a brick wall)

i am being very honest with you here.. you must do something that includes extreme suicidal behaviour tht causes your parents to rush you to hospital, then a nurse will hopefully notice all of your self harm mark (cuts, burns, bruises etc) and consult a mental health professional..

please take my points into consideration.. i hope i helped.. please dont actually TRY to kill yourself just make a very unsuccesful attempt :S plz dont commit suicide!! i wont be able to live of you do cuz ill blame myself for writing this :S ahh!! x hope i helped! xxxxxx

What can you do 2 prevent bipolar attacks?

Preventing bipolar disorder is very difficult since it is a medical condition that is not "caught" but rather spawns within the mind. There is very little that can be done to "prevent" a mental disorder other than treating people with respect.

What can you do to make yourself feel better if you are unhappy all the time?

Here are suggestions for feeling better:

  • Any kind of Exercise. Exercise gets the body to release very pleasant chemicals and neurotransmitters. And you can also feel better about living healthier and eventually looking better.
  • Exercise is certainly a good wake-up call for our bodies and makes us feel better, but before you rely on that solely please have a good check-up by your doctor. Ask for a T3/T4 thyroid test as well and also get your adrenal gland checked. These are two organs that can cause lethargy, panic attacks, depression from both.
  • You could talk to a therapist, doctor, or psychiatrist; you may need an anti-depressant.
  • For me it was exercise, therapy (cognitive behaviour therapy is supposed to be the most effective) and anti depressants. I'm now off the drugs and I'm still happy (not all the time, but enough, like an average person).
  • Try watching comedies when you are alone. And try organizing gatherings with friends during the weekends. You will feel better if you are preparing for something, and you will have fun hanging out with friends.
  • Organising events is usually the best way. I try to make myself feel better by doing something creative that I can rely on: I usually write.
  • Other ideas: 1) get a pet. Something you can take care of. Usually when you feel bad, you can also end up quite lonely. 2) change your surroundings: move your furniture or try on a different outfit. 3) get an organiser- related to the one above, try to fill your days with something to do. 4) go somewhere- anywhere. Go for a walk with no direction. Don't get lost, but do go for a walk and take a look around you. 5) try cooking/cleaning - sounds too domestic, but often when you cook your own meal, or clean up your home you'll pleased with what you've accomplished
  • Get some sun.
  • Think about positive aspects of your life.
  • If you're unhappy all of the time: 1) Talk to your most supportive friends. 2) Write down the names of ten people who care about you & of people you care about. 3) Find a way to cope with your depression like: reading, writing, or drawing. 4) Hurting yourself is NEVER the answer.

Cognitive Behavioral Techniques:

  • Realistic Thinking: when you have a thought that makes you worry or feel unhappy, ask yourself if it is realistic. Unrealistic worries are often to blame when we feel bad. If the thought is not realistic (for example, thinking that you will never feel better, or thinking that everyone hates you), then you tell yourself "Realistically ..." and reframe that thought into something that is actually real instead of blown out of proportion (for example, "Realistically, I will feel better sometime, even if I don't feel good now" or "Realistically, some people like me and some people don't - everybody has some people who don't like them").
  • Examine the Evidence: whenever you feel overwhelmed and depressed, look at the facts surrounding the situation. Things are almost never as bad as they look when you are upset. List the facts - both good and bad - on paper or in your computer so that you can be more scientific about it. This ties into realistic thinking.
  • Find Your Triggers: keep a mood diary to figure out what things set off these unhappy feelings. The more you know about your emotions, the more in control you can become. If you know that you always feel sad after talking to a certain person, then you can decide if it might be best not to talk to them, or you can prepare ahead of time and figure out how to avoid feeling bad from the conversation.
  • Mix it Up: try changing your routine, even a little bit. Sometimes doing something different will help you change your mood.

Another Suggestion:

What works for me is to do something JUST FOR ME. I go to Wal-Mart or some type of discount store and buy a brand new pair of pajamas that don't cost much. I also buy a pair of socks and panties to match. I make a trip to Blockbuster or Hollywood and find the FUNNIEST movie(s) that I can find; preferably movies with no real point except pure stupidity. Leslie Neilson and Jim Carrey are 2 of the greatest. I buy myself something for dinner (already cooked). I go home and take a shower, put on my all-new attire, pop the movie in, re-heat the dinner that I bought and laugh for the entire night. I don't answer the phone and I don't have any company. I don't share this time with ANYONE. It's my night and my night only and it's ALL ABOUT ME. You would be surprised how much better this little ritual can make you feel. But the key is being clean and that every piece of clothing that touches your body is brand new and that you aren't obligated to anyone or anything. The point is to actually acknowledge your own value. Make yourself a Queen for a night. You are very special and you are important.

Kindness

On another note, one thing you can do to immediately feel great from your core is to give! Give your time, your money, your energy or yourself (selflessness) to any cause or for something you want to help out with or make better. The reward for selfless acts are immediate and the effect is truly a blessing. This will immediately lift your value as a person to your own consciousness and boost your self esteem. Remember, the drive for your unselfish act should be greater than your drive to feel better. Selflessness has a great way of naturally sorting that our sometimes by allowing you to see your better side.

How long does bipolar disorder last?

One to two week cycles of Mania or Depression are standard to Bipolar type 1, the length of suffering from the mental illness altogether however is indefinite without treatment

There are many types of Bipolar however, and without going into great detail it would be impossible to cover all the possibilities, however what I stated above would be counted as 'standard'

Sleeping too much is one sign of depression, but it could have other causes, too. Look up the symptoms of depression and see if a lot of them fit. Depression is very common, and it can be treated.

Your best bet is to get a medical check-up to see if you are healthy. Then ask your doctor for a recommendation to a doctor who specializes in depression, like a psychiatrist. You can take pills or just talk to the specialist and maybe that would be enough to clear it up.

What are some ways knowing a person wants to commit suicide?

The best way to tell someone you are thinking about suicide, is to say the words to them. To suffer with the thoughts and feelings alone will bring more harm to you. It may be a very scary thing to do, but the alternative is far worse. Once it is said, you can move on to recovering from what is leading to these feelings. If you cannot bring yourself to talk to someone you know, call your local suicide hotline or try these numbers: 1-800-SUICIDE / 1-800-784-2433; Call 1-800-273-TALK / 1-800-273-8255.

Why does anyone want to commit suicide?

People can't wait to die because they have had their fill at the banquet of life, and it is time to return to the heavens with the knowledge they have gained. The experience of life valuable or not does not weigh in to when or how departure is determined; however, the size of one's appetite for life incarnate does. Some are gorge themselves, other are easily satisfied. I for one am easily satisfied that life is as nourishing as sugarless candy.

What to do when you think to end your life?

Get help! Whether you're just toying with the idea or you've got a plan it doesn't matter! 1-800-273-8255 This number is to the national suicide hotline. Call it. Talking can help... everyone's life is worth living even if at the time you can't think of a reason. I'll give you a reason! I said you're live is worth living! and I'm almost always right :) Just try to remember what amazing things your future holds for you!

Ok... off the record I'm going to suggest something kind of silly but it helped me.... Go get your palm read. I don't recommend taking it seriously but its fun to humor and it will give you a little hope for the future :) you see the lines on your palms constantly change through out your life so just because your future is headed down one path doesn't mean that you can't change it! I find it to be quite an emotional experience but remember you are responsible for your own future and you can make anything happen!

Smile :) and think of all the blessings you have in your life :) and always remember suicide does nothing but cause pain and heartache for your friends and family.

What if you are bipolar and go off all your meds?

Not a smart thing to do, I quit cold turkey for Bi-Polar, and Depression and I regret being off them. Been there; done that. You become a popular breakfast cereal..... "Fruit Loops." You can only be bi-polar if the chemistry in your head becomes imbalanced; your meds are supposed to re-balance your scrambled head. Going without your meds is only good when you are appearing before a Social Security Evaluation Board to get on SSI, but not really recommended. Bi-polar IS A DIRECT RESULT FROM BIOLOGICAL PARENTS PROCREATING THESE CHILDREN AT CERTAIN, PREDICTABLE, AVOIDABLE TIMES. The only problem is that people never heard of this Theory, or the Genetic Law behind it This same Law affects EVERY child born.

Bipolar disorder and cocaine?

Persons with bipolar disorder are very susceptible to cocaine (and other "uppers" abuse, like meth). This is because the high from the cocaine mimics the bipolar person's natural manic state (bipolar disorder consists of mania and depression, hence why it was once called "manic depression".

The mania experienced by a bipolar person is enjoyable. They often feel they are on top of the world, unstoppable, euphoric, impulsive and spontaneous. When in a manic phase, it is not uncommon for the person to go on a shopping spree and spend more money than they have. Sometimes the impulsive behavior during a manic phase will trigger a depressive episode, other times the depression just comes without any triggers.

The depression experienced by someone with bipolar is usually severe. Once the person has experienced cocaine (or other uppers) they may abuse it to retrieve those great feelings during their mania. This means the potential for abuse and addiction is high.

There are no specific risks that are unique to someone suffering from bipolar disorder compared to a cocaine users who does not have bipolar. I'd only assume that if the bipolar person is in a manic phase when (s)he uses the cocaine, their impulsivity and feelings that they cannot be harmed could make them susceptible to overdose or other dangerous behavior while under the influence.

There are rehab facilities that treat "dual diagnosis" which means the person not only has a substance abuse/addiction problem, but they have a mental disorder (such as bipolar) congruently. I'd recommend they look into a dual diagnosis treatment center if they are looking for or wanting help.

What happens when you suffer from depression?

Suffering from depression is really a loss of the self. Common consequences of depression are chronic loss of sleep, loss of interest in things that normally excite you,

loss of emotion (apathy) and loss of hope. Any one of those can be experienced by a healthy person for a short while, but when the problem is chronic it becomes imperative to see a doctor.

Is Bipolar a disease?

Yes and no - bipolar disorder is a mental disorder because it is a chemical imbalance within the brain which causes mood swings. However, you might consider it a physical disorder because it does have specific physical symptoms such as extreme tiredness alternating with periods of extreme energy, and risky behavior during certain times. Most doctors consider it to be a mental disorder.

Has someone ever died from graves disease?

While Graves disease is potentially fatal if untreated, it doesn't seem to be much of a threat if properly managed.

Graves disease is the result of the immune system attacking the thyroid in such a way that the body produces too much thyroxin. Once that occurs the metabolism can be stimulated to the degree that the body is unable to process sufficient calories to meet the needs of normal operations, so the body starts feeding on it's own muscle mass. Unfortunately, one of the muscles, the heart, doesn't do well once it is reduced beyond a certain point.

When treated, Graves disease is little more than an annoyance.

What impact does pain have on depression?

When you are depressed, you often have aches and pains, or even nausea, which have no definite cause. It is a proven fact that a poor mental attitude can affect your body. When you are suffering from depression and thinking all that negativity, it can indeed cause your body to suffer right along with your mind.
