Why does dishwasher leak from bottom?

Gravity. The circulator pump is at the bottom as is the drain pipe and drain pump. All seals are likely to fail but the most common is the seal on the circulation pump shaft. There is often a paddle/level switch on the undertray that cuts off the machine if the water level gets too high. The easiest way to find the area of a water leak that is not obvious is to dry the floor under the appliance, remove the undertray and return the machine to the upright position. Then put a newspaper under it. Mark the position of front edge of the appliance on the paper. Run the appliance and periodically pull the paper from under the appliance, putting the paper back in exactly the same place after each check. When water is seen on the paper, stop the machine. the mark on the paper can them be used to line up with and locate the area of the leak.

Does a dishwasher need a dedicated circuit?

Dishwashers do not have to be on a dedicated circuit, according to NEC codes. Neither do refrigerators. Electric Ranges and OTR Microwave Hoods and Hood Fans do.

First, always ascertain the appliances that will be in the room and regularly used, and calculate their wattage or look it up in the specs found on the appliance or in its manual.

The dishwasher issue is a falsehood espoused by many kitchen designers, home inspectors and electricians who have apparently substituted their own opinions as being code. I just read all of the applicable NEC codes. They are readily available for purchase or for free at your local library. Consulting it yourself is the best bet. It does not specify a dedicated circuit for the dishwasher. It can be on a branch circuit for the kitchen, but if it's sharing the circuit with other appliances, then it must not use more than 50% of a branch circuit's load capacity. So that in effect creates a dedicated circuit requirement IF your circuit is a 15 amp circuit. If it's a 20 amp, you may have capacity room for a small load appliance such as the disposal or refrigerator, depending on load calculations (Volts x Amps = Watts (Load). But if you use a 30 amp or higher circuit capacity, then you can comply with code much easier if other small appliances are on it. NEC 210.23

Can a dishwasher and disposal share a dedicated 20 amp circuit?

Original answer: Yes! I did this in my Kitchen

USSEG: It really comes down to how much amp each of the appliances is going to use at peak. You need to look at the emperage draw of each appliance then make your decision. If you are sure you are not going to use both at the same time (ever) then it is fine. A disposal requires at least a 15 amp and a dishwasher usually needs at least a 15 amp.

If breakers start tripping you will need to separate them.

If this is for new contrstruction, there is no reason not to run a separate line for each.

Build a 3 sided box out of paneling and a piece of countertop for a top.
The setup that connects the hoses to the faucet and the adapter for the faucet itself is available from most plumbing supply stores or you can get it from the on-line parts department at Sears.
Then get a good heavy duty exrension cord to use as a plug.
You can do the whole project in an afternoon with just basic hand tools
